As the temperature cools and leaves start to turn, raking season is fast approaching. When you are switching from summer gardening to fall cleanup, it is important to remember the different demands you are putting on your body. Use these tips to help prevent these aches and pains.

1. Warm up - A quick walk around the block or on the spot will help get your muscles warm and ready to work. A few arms swings and knee bends can help even more.

2. Stretch - Focus on a few key areas - stretch 5x per side Use care when lifting and hold for about 15 seconds.
Sides (Extend one arm overhead, bend to the opposite side)
Back (While sitting, bend forward and touch your hands to the ground)
Wrists (Hold your arm out in front of you, first bend your palm up with the other hand, then bend it down)

3. Lift with care - Get as close to the object as possible before lifting, and bend your knees and arms to lift while keeping your back in a neutral position.

4. Take breaks - take frequent breaks, making sure to stretch
