March Break is here! ☀️🐾

If your plans include family time, outdoor adventures, or a little travel, we hope your dog gets to be part of the fun too!

A few simple reminders for busy weeks:

• Bring water on longer outings
• Watch for icy or muddy footing on trails
• Allow rest time after big activity days
• Keep routines as consistent as possible

Dogs thrive on routine—but they also love being included in the adventure 🌄

Wishing everyone a safe and happy March Break!

🐾 See Me Sunday 🐾

Everyone… meet Daisy. 🌼

This 10-year-old Olde English Bulldog (about 82 lbs) is the definition of a sweet, gentle soul who’s ready to enjoy the quieter side of life. Her foster family describes her as a lovable old lady whose favourite activities include snuggling, snoozing, carrying her beloved stuffed toys, and politely asking for snacks.

Daisy is very much a people dog. She loves attention, affection, and simply being near her humans. She gets along with other dogs, especially calm and easygoing ones, but she’d be just as happy living as the spoiled princess of the house. Cats and small animals aren’t her thing, but she does fine with small dogs.

Her energy level is low and easygoing, which suits her perfectly. A little wander outside, a comfy spot to nap, and a toy in her mouth… that’s Daisy’s idea of a perfect day. Car rides are no problem either — she’s happy to sit back and relax.

Like many bulldogs, she does have a few quirks:
• She prefers no chicken in her diet
• A little beef broth on her food helps tempt her appetite
• She has some stiffness in her back hips, so minimal stairs would be best
• She’ll need frequent potty breaks or easy access outside
• The crate? Definitely not her favourite place

Her absolute pride and joy is her stuffed toys. She carries them around like little treasures and never destroys them — just holds them proudly. It’s pretty adorable. 🧸

Daisy would thrive in a calm home, possibly with older children who understand that she prefers peace and quiet over chaos. In return, she’ll give you companionship, gentle loyalty, and a lot of sweet bulldog charm.

🌼 Age: 10 years
🌼 Breed: Olde English Bulldog
🌼 Adoption Fee: $250
🌼 Spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, health certificate, and 30 days free pet insurance

Spring is creeping in… and our dogs know it before we do🐾

As the weather starts to warm up, many dogs suddenly become more active after a quieter winter. That excitement is great—but it’s also when we begin to see more muscle strains and stiffness.

A few simple tips as activity increases:

• Ease back into longer walks gradually
• Allow time for stretching and warm-up during play
• Watch for subtle signs of soreness (slower to get up, hesitation jumping)
• Keep nails trimmed to help with traction on wet ground

A little preventative care now can help keep your dog comfortable and moving well all season long.

There is something truly special about a Bernese Mountain Dog 🐾

With their striking tri-colour coats, kind eyes, and calm, steady presence, they have a way of capturing hearts at first sight 💜

Today I had the pleasure of seeing Lola again for her monthly maintenance massage. Lola is a beautiful 10-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. Like many large breed dogs entering their senior years, Lola is beginning to experience some arthritis — something we often see as these gentle giants age.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and deep devotion to their families. Originally bred as working dogs in the Swiss Alps, they were valued for their strength, reliability, and their calm, thoughtful nature. Even today, you can see that steady character in the way they watch their people and stay close by.

I must say.. There is also something incredibly beautiful about a senior dog 🙏🏻

The wisdom in their eyes, the quiet trust they place in the people caring for them, and the gentle way they accept comfort and support.

Lola was an absolute joy to have in the clinic today. Regardless of age, she is like fine wine, an absolutely stunning dog, and spending time with these gentle souls is always a privilege.

Helping dogs like Lola stay comfortable, supported, and moving well as they age is one of the most rewarding parts of canine wellness care 🐾

We’ve been a little quiet here lately.

Our family experienced a major loss, and like many things in life, it reminded us how important it is to pause, be present, and take care of the people (and dogs) closest to us.

Thank you for continuing to follow and support Praying Manus Canine Wellness while we took some time away 🙏

We’re settling back into our routines and are looking forward to sharing helpful tips, wellness information, canine care advice, and our See Me Sunday featured dogs again as we head into the spring season.

Spring is right around the corner, and with it comes fresh air, muddy paws, and plenty of happy dogs.

Thank you for being here with us 🐾

Thankful for the women who live their faith, love their people, care for animals, serve their communities, and keep going even when no one sees the effort.

Quiet strength matters.

🐾 See Me Sunday 🐾

Meet this stunning 5-year-old Belgian Malinois girl currently waiting at the Welland SPCA Shelter.

If you know the breed, you already know… these dogs are something special💛

She’s incredibly smart, focused, and eager to work with her person. Staff have noticed she walks beautifully on leash and clearly has had some training before arriving at the shelter.

Like most Malinois, she’s not a couch potato. This girl has energy, brains, and drive, and she will absolutely thrive with someone who enjoys training, learning, and staying active together. Puzzle toys, advanced obedience, scent work, agility, or structured daily exercise would be right up her alley.

Because of her working-dog personality and high energy, she’s looking for:
✔️ A breed-experienced home
✔️ A calm, structured environment
✔️ No other dogs or children
✔️ A home with space to run and play (apartments wouldn’t be a good fit)

For the right person, a Malinois like this can be an incredible partner and loyal companion.

She’s waiting for someone who understands her kind of dog — someone who will give her the guidance, activity, and purpose she’s built for.

Our boy Russell graduated from his Puppy Skills class at The Crunchy Canine last night! 🎓🐾

This six-week program focused on helping puppies learn how to calm themselves, socialize safely with people and other dogs, practice basic commands, and build confidence around new things like vet tables and agility equipment. Russell worked hard and mastered every skill they introduced.

Russell actually started out as one of our foster dogs, and from the beginning we hoped we’d get to keep him. But he was very under-socialized as a puppy. He had really only been around his littermates, and for a long time he was extremely nervous around people—especially men—and trusted almost no one but me. It has taken patience and time to help him work through that.

This class gave him the confidence he really needed. We all like to think we’ll do all the training and socialization at home, but life gets busy (I’m just as guilty of that). Taking one hour a week to focus on your dog—and practicing in between—WILL make a lifelong difference.

Russell is already more confident, and that matters. Nobody wants to approach a scared German Shepherd, and that’s not the life we want for him.

We’re really grateful for what The Crunchy Canine is doing with their puppy socialization classes.

Good training isn’t always about obedience. Sometimes it’s simply about helping a puppy learn that the world is a safe place and that it’s okay to feel confident in their own puppy body 💙

💜 Rescue Advocacy: Patience Changes Lives

Rescue dogs don’t need perfection. They need patience.

Sometimes dogs struggle after adoption not because they’re “bad dogs,” but because they haven’t been given time to decompress, regulate, and feel safe in their bodies.

Structure, routine, and gentle body care help rescue dogs:

• settle their nervous systems
• build trust
• feel secure enough to learn
• succeed long-term in their homes

To support rescue families, I offer $40 off initial treatments for rescue dogs.
Use code RESCUE40 when booking.

Advocacy doesn’t end at adoption 💜

🚫 Client Myth-Busting Series — Part 2

“My dog is too hyper for massage.”

Actually… those are often the dogs who benefit the most!

High-energy dogs frequently carry tension without realizing it. Massage helps teach their bodies how to slow down, settle, and reset. Over time, this can support better focus, improved impulse control, and smoother transitions between activity and rest.

Calm is a skill — and it can be learned.
