Welcome to 2026! We want to kick this year off starting a new interactive series with each of our followers to give a great experience and provide insight where we can!

With that, we want YOU to get involved and comment below what type of scenario and call breakdown you want next Monday. Each week we will give a situation or scenario, give the week for discussion and breakdown, and then find a new topic to explore the following week.

We will keep these things to a Primary Care Paramedic scope and allow the time for students to jump in and give their ideas in a supportive and open space to promote education and improvement.

We will kick it off with the following monitor findings, and a report of some shortness of breath and mid-eternal chest heaviness. This came on 30 minutes prior while the patient was shovelling snow, and has not resolved or gotten better like it has in the past.

What are your next steps in terms of assessment?
What directives and medications are you considering?
How can we ensure we differentiate between cardiac concerns and other forms of chest pain for musculoskeletal causes?

“You can do everything right and still lose them” is a very important lesson to remember from the stage of student riding out all the way to seasoned paramedic. We train hard to do everything we can for our patients, but remembering there are times we simply can’t do enough will come.

He died, even though there were NOR and FRA medical westerners there trying to save him. Max told me it was a good photo op and I hesitated. Felt wrong, but did it anyway. There was a weird hesitation where it was like - “who was going to carry this dead man off the stretcher”. After a few seconds l moved up, flipped the camera on my shoulder, grabbed one arm and lifted him onto a rug on the ground. I then helped carry him with French SOF (dressed in ISOF black - awesome lads) on that rug to the rest of his family that was alive at our CCP. Saw one of them crouching by the side of the road crying with his hands in his lap. Pictured it my head about how good that would have looked on film. Then I dismissed it knowing that life and family over rides a pathetic photo op. He was unfortunately one of many on that tour that didn’t make it. I cried as l wrote this. Dont give two sh*ts about what anyone thinks.
