Back to the 4* Eventer that Kelvin Lymer jumped in to help!
๐กReminder: An acute laminitis attack in the Spring that became unmanageable via conventional methods.
We've already shown you how the horse adjusted to suit individual left and right fore using the deformability of the MoreAid Squish Pad (which you can see on the right side of this image if you need a recap!).
Now, for more interesting observations...
Take a look at the X-Rays on the left from when we first started the journey with this horse. And then, take another look at the X-Rays on the right from last month. ๐ง
They found relief by increasing their own wedge, and thus heel height; reduced tendon strain and toe leverage, particularly in the right fore. With veterinary led management and owner commitment to lifestyle changes whilst in recovery, their comfort steadily increased, their abscessing stopped, their soles became tougher, the hoof wall connection became tighter. No hobbling around the barn, but trotting around - a day their owner probably thought would never come.
And that's the beauty of the Squish Pad - no angles forced or fixed, no rigidity that would remove natural flex and function, no toe nubbing to get it to fit (it's toe cuff comes pre scored to allow removal and a set back position if required), no nails in an already compromised hoof, and as much as we support it and have horses on our books living this way, better results than barefoot could achieve, or boots, for minimal damage recovery.
After many cycles in our Squish Pads, this horse has now moved onto our Spider Bar with 10A Shore DIM. We are hopeful they have been set up in good stead for the hoof to continue full function with the enhanced solar and caudal support of the Spider Bar, and chance to develop their own depth. We'll be back in a few weeks - they may have loved them and be due a repeat application, they may need a slight man made wedge, they may need and appreciate the comfort and adjustability of an incorporated Squish Bar... ๐คท
Rehab is not linear, and don't let the internet tell you otherwise. They are all individuals with individual needs, and they haven't read the text book.
Comfort first, always. Supported by science, designed with experience.
