🫀 Today is Restart a Heart Day?! Getting into the right rhythm will help you save a life! 🎶

🎵From “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees, Tracy Chapmin’s “Fast Car” and “Sorry” by Justin Bieber to “Baby Shark” and Taylor Swift’s “The Man,” there are many songs that match the perfect compression rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.🎵

🚨Try practicing your CPR skills while you listen along because remembering just one of the songs on our playlist can help in an emergency!🚑

🚨When it comes to injuries at home, play, or work, prevention is key.

Today on Injury Prevention Day consider the risks in your environment and work to mitigate them. By committing to creat safer environments around us, we can ensure that our friends, family, colleagues, and employees will live safer and healthier lives.

What does a commitment look like? If you’re an employer, make sure you have a Joint Health and Safety Committee, including training workers and managers in JHSC Level 1 + Level 2, so people are better able to see risks to themselves and their colleagues.

If you are an employee or someone who is concerned about their friends and family, then volunteer to take First Aid / CPR training at work or proactively register yourself and your family members for First Aid / CPR. You’ll not only be more safety minded, but if there is an injury, you’ll feel prepared to respond to it.

Finally, make sure you have the appropriate first aid kit for any and all activities that you want to participate in or where you expect to be.

📆 Reach out to St. John Ambulance Niagara Falls by phone at 905-356-7340, email at Niagara.Falls@sja.ca, or stop in at the branch to register for training or purchase the appropriate supplies. The more you prepare today, the better you will be for tomorrow!

🥶The colder months make it harder to stay motivated and take proper care of our wellbeing.

Here are a few simple Sunday self-care tips:

➡️ Nourish and Hydrate: Fuel your body with nutrient-dense foods that make you feel good. Don't forget to drink lots of water!

➡️ Move Your Body: Get moving in a way that you enjoy. Whether that's a walk outside with your dog or a relaxing yoga class, choose whatever feels right for you. Movement matters!

➡️ Prioritize your Sleep: Create a relaxing bedtime routine and avoid using electronic devices right before bed. Good sleep is vital to keeping you healthy.

➡️ Practice Mindfulness: Take a quiet moment to yourself and focus on your breathing. We often forget to do so with our busy lives.

⁣➡️ Unplug and Unwind: Disconnect from social media and screens. Spend some time away from your devices and participate in activites that don't involve blue light.

➡️Register for Mental Health First Aid Virtual or Mental Health and Wellness for the Workplace (In-Person) with St. John Ambulance Niagara Falls: Learning skills about how to respond to a mental health crisis or emergency in your personal life or work life is important and can make you feel better equipped to deal with unexpected situations. Self-care is not selfish. It's an essential part of maintaining your wellbeing and important for your mental health!
