🧠 Took a Vestibular Rehabilitation course over the weekend. Enjoyed leaning about different conditions and learning rehab exercises and treatments.

🥴 I have had episodes of BPPV in the past, some over a prolonged period of time. I can relate to patients experiencing it. It can be debilitating, scary and very unpleasant. So it’s nice to have learned about it and ways to treat it :)

🤓The course also discussed other conditions of the vestibular system and concussions. Looking forward to applying the information I have learned!

🏃‍♀️ Here are some running tips, if you are wanting to try running this spring!

🌸 Start with interval running, for example run 2 minutes then walk 2 minutes.

🌸Don’t worry about your pace, just run at a comfortable speed for you.

🌸Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. You are going to experience new aches and pains bc it is new to you!

🌸Invest is a good pair of running shoes, it will make all the difference.

🌸Spread out your runs through the week as rest is important for recovery.

🌸Cross train with other activities like strength training. Your body needs variety to prevent injuries.

🌸Don’t compare yourself to others, you are running and that’s great!

🌸Run with a friend or listen to music to make runs more enjoyable :)

Running is an excellent way to get active and enjoy the beautiful weather to come! Now what are you waiting for? Get out there! 🏃‍♀️

For Arthritis, mobility is very important to help manage your symptoms and keep your joints from stiffening.

It can be tempting to move less when you are in pain but gentle regular exercise can reduce pain and prevent muscle loss.

Your exercise program should have variety by including gentle stretching to support mobility and reduce stiffness, strengthening exercises to protect and stabilize joints and cardiovascular exercise to support heart health and promote oxygen rich blood flow throughout your body :)

If you or someone you know would like guidance with an exercise program, don’t hesitate to reach out. ✌️

I have been training for the Around the Bay race that will hopefully be in person on March 27th. It’s been a race I’ve wanted to do for awhile so I finally decided I’m going to do this 💪

I’m now heading into new territory with my training. In the past I have ran 1/2 marathons but nothing over this mileage. The ATB race is 30km! So far so good, with some minor discomfort when I approach 20km. But I seem to bounce back and feel ok the next day 👏

Adding the next 10km to my runs slowly for the next few weeks is going to be a new challenge for me. Also a challenge is running this mileage in the bitter cold winter, in the past I would run 10km max in the winter. 🥶

So, with the increase in running mileage and winter training, I’m enjoying pushing myself both physically and mentally. Yes, running is very mentally challenging and self talk and encouragement is huge!

I just wanted to share what I’m working on personally and hope everyone else is setting goals and accomplishing them as well 👏

Falls in the senior population can be devastating! It can change a life instantly and can lead to a very long recovery.

The best way to prevent a fall is to challenge yourself physically with an exercise routine and to make small changes in your living environment that can reduce your risk of falling.

If you or a friend or loved one could benefit from a senior mobility program to prevent falls, contact me :)

Shin splints, a condition, as a runner I have had personal experience with. Being proactive and listening to your body is important. For me, I would be eager to increase my running distance too quickly and would pay for it with shin splints.
Increasing mileage and intensity slowly, adequate rest in between runs, stretching and strengthening and proper foot wear are great ways to prevent this painful condition.

Happy running!

If you have ever had Plantar Fasciitis you know how terribly stubborn it is and how it can really slow you down.
It is a condition I have commonly treated that takes time and some lifestyle changes.

Prevention is key, invest in a good pair of shoes! Your feet will thank you ☺️

Take the time to stretch and strengthening your lower extremities which include your feet.
