When I first became a therapist, the work of Dr. Kristen Neff really resonated with me.
It offered something different from the relentless pursuit of self-esteem — something I was all too familiar with. Instead, it offered a gentler way to meet ourselves with kindness, exactly where we are.
Over time, self-compassion has continued to shape how I work with clients, especially those who feel stuck in self-criticism or the sense that they should be “doing better” by now.
I’ve seen this again and again (particularly in women): we are so much harder on ourselves than we are with anyone else in our lives. Real change happens when we learn to offer ourselves the same kindness and support we so easily give to others.
If this resonates, you don’t have to explore it alone.
