Did you know that foals benefit from chiropractic care too?

Going from strict confines in utero to navigating through the pelvis and landing in the outside world- their little bodies go through a lot! Not to mention the wobbling and stumbling as they test out their legs for the first time (and learn to use them for several days after).

It has been shown that birth trauma- when not addressed at a young age- can perpetuate into asymmetries such as high/low heels, canter lead preferences, stiffness to bending, etc.

This is why I am offering a complimentary initial adjustment for foals during their dam’s post-pregnancy follow-up appointment (Dam must be receiving routine chiropractic care during their pregnancy).

Work looks a little different these days, and I love it 🩷

I’m very grateful for my husband who tags along to be on baby duty so that I can give my full attention to you and your animals during your appointments.

I am also very grateful for all of my clients who have invited me back into your animals lives with open arms 🤗 it has been great to catch up with you all!

This chapter of my life has been such a blessing thanks to everyone in it 🤍

Bodyworkers, you have to stop telling clients their horse has vertebrae “out”.

Out where? Out of joint? (Very unlikely to be the case and if so - call your vet because dislocations are no joke) Out to lunch? Out of this world? Where did this vertebrate go?

A chiropractor restores motion to joints that have lost some of their normal range of motion. Nothing is “put back in place”. Motion is induced to the area of interest based on the motion it has lost and the anatomy involved.

Owners, there’s a very strong chance that if you haven’t had your animal treated in several months (let alone years) there will be multiple areas restricted that would benefit from being addressed. No need to be surprised or feel it is an emergency when it’s being brought up to you. You can book maintenance chiropractic appointments just like you do with other forms of bodywork.

Grateful to be a part of this wonderful program and team of outstanding professionals ❤️ I have very much missed being involved this year. Looking forward to returning in the future!

👋 Meet Dr. Kendle Dykstra, DC, cAVCA Animal Chiropractor | Mobile Practitioner

Dr. Kendle Dykstra, a proud graduate of the Veterinary Chiropractic Learning Centre program and New York Chiropractic College, has dedicated her practice, Unity Chiropractic, to providing expert care for horses and dogs across the Niagara region. Since opening her mobile animal chiropractic practice in 2020, she’s been helping horses of all disciplines stay in peak health and making house calls for canine care. Dr. Dykstra joined VCLC as an instructor in 2021 and while life changes have kept her away this year, she will rejoin the program soon. Outside of work, she’s a devoted pet parent to her French Bulldog and two beloved retired mares, and a soon to be parent of the human variety. 🐶🐴

I loved chatting about this topic with Starline Equine Bodywork!

This week on the Starline Equine Bodywork Podcast I had a great conversation with one of the professionals I respect most in the bodywork industry.

Join me and special guest Dr. Kendle Dykstra of Unity Chiropractic as we chat about our ideas on bodywork, reaching goals and bridging the gap between client expectations and physiological realities.

Kendle and I talk about the difference and similarities between our modalities, and all kinds of anatomical and physiological considerations we need to consider when working with horses.

Pay your horse bills promptly.

Your equestrian coach, trainer, vet, barn owner, farrier, bodyworker.. and any other form of professional in the industry (which includes me, thank yeeeew) are not financing or subsidizing your equestrian dreams, please budget for the bills you choose to incur and pay your horse bills promptly.

Horses are expensive - budget your passion if you can’t afford to pay your bills, it’s unfair to the businesses financing your late payments.

About Me

Dr. Kendle Dykstra grew up in the Niagara region, where she spent much of her time involved in the equestrian community. She discovered the benefits of chiropractic care, for both herself and her horses, while dealing with ailments obtained through the equestrian sport. These experiences inspired her to pursue a career in Chiropractic.

Dr. Dykstra attended New York Chiropractic College, graduating with honours in 2019. She is excited to return to the Niagara region, and help her community through chiropractic adjustments. You can find her at Touch of Health Chiropractic and Wellness in Fonthill Ontario.

Her passion for animals has motivated Dr. Dykstra to pursue further certification, and attend the Veterinary Chiropractic Learning Centre to become an Animal Chiropractor. Keep an eye out for these services to become available!
