Barbara Anne McCann (Ardelyan) - Thee Lady Barber was born in Regina to George and Joyce Ardelyan. She grew up in Avonlea, SK with her parents and younger sister Beverley and spent many hours on the family farm in Truax, SK. The Ardelyans spent a lot of time with extended family, enjoying the company of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins especially on the holidays. Barb took all of her schooling - kindergarten to grade 12 in Avonlea.
Barb had 1 daughter, Christine Joyce. Barb pursued her hairdressing education in Regina. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, always dreaming of owning her own barbershop. Barb spent many years practicing her skill until she decided to commute to Avonlea to offer hair styling to her home community. It was there she met her husband, Jack McCann.
In 1987 Barb and Jack moved to the Nipawin area and purchased an acreage. They spent many years there together building their dream. The yard was filled with various kinds of farm animals which Barb loved to tend to and care for. Jack worked alongside her tending to their cattle and working full time at several businesses in Nipawin as a mechanic. Many hours of enjoyment were spent in the beautifully manicured yard and tending to the garden. In their early years Barb and Jack enjoyed many camping trips to Waskesui with Jack’s sons Jamie and Mike where they fished and hiked.
It was in Nipawin Barb realized her dream of owning her own barbershop and in 1987 opened Thee Lady Barber on Main Street.
Barb loved driving her horses and spending time with her many animals and pets which included bunnies, pigeons, goats, dogs, cats, donkeys and horses…her own Noah’s ark. On one instance she and a friend were riding one of her horses, Cloudy when she unexpectedly fell of and decided it would be in her best interest to try to hide the bruises that covered one entire side of her body from Jack…turns out she ended up ‘fessing up to that one.
In 2018 Barb decided to close Thee Lady Barber and retire but continued to cut hair occasionally in her home and on the reserves. Barb’s 50-year career in hairstyling was a huge source of pride for her. She often spoke of how much she enjoyed the time she spent in her shop with her customers. They were known to be greeted by one of her beloved furry friends Festus, Shorty, or Missy.
Barb is predeceased by her parents George Donald Ardelyan and Joyce Emmalline Ardelyan (Robertson); her father-in-law Karl Kiefer as well as many aunts and uncles, cousins and her nephew Phillip Donald Fahlman.
She is survived by her husband Jackie Allen McCann of 33 years; her Mother in Law Elma Kiefer; her daughter Christine Joyce Ortman (Andrew), her step children James Edward Mcann (Kimberley Marshall), Dianna Miller (Darren), Michael John McCann (Carmen Marshall); her sister Beverley Joan Fahlman, her brother in laws Jess McCann (Suzie Franceour), Dean McCann (Nancy Metcalf); sister in laws Valerie Tippe (Murray); Cathy Bitel (Roger) her 9 grandchildren Isaiah Christopher Ortman (Richelle Dahl), Jacob Andrew Ortman, Eli George Ortman, Benjamin Isaiah Ortman, Tyler Benjamin Allen Miller, Mathew Brent Miller, Brendan Alexander McCann, Coby James McCann, Brighton Robert McCann, great Grandchildren Margot Ardelyan Ortman and Iver Emile Ortman (Isaiah & Richelle), Ariyah Grace Miller, Oliver Bentley Glen Miller (Tyler Miller) and nephews Ryan Micheal Fahlman (Krystal Teale), Jared Clarence Fahlman (Sarah Friesen), along with 5 great nieces and nephews.
