Hey! I’m Casey, and I am the owner of Much Kneaded Releaf! Let me tell you a quick little bit about myself and my business.
I started my education at the Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapies in Winnipeg, MB in 2015, and I completed the basic program in the summer of 2016, which was when I received my certification for basic relaxation massage. I was scheduled to continue my training the following term, however, that is when I found out that I was expecting my son, so I decided to take a bit of time off in order to focus on my family, and to practice & perfect the techniques that I had already learned.
I have since moved out to Lorette with my family, where I operate my clinic out of my home, and I am (slowly but surely!) building up an amazing client base!
I had INTENDED to return to Wellington College to complete the advanced portion of the massage program and to graduate as a licensed RMT (Remedial Massage Therapist), however, financially, that is not currently in the cards for us, and I am slowly coming to terms with that.
With that being said, I have decided to focus on relaxation and stress relief, as I myself have had a hard time finding a good massage therapist who is able to turn off the “treatment” aspect of their training, and just give an awesome relaxation massage - sometimes that is just all you want!
Now. You may be wondering about the “nature therapy” part of my business.
I would like to say first and foremost that I am not a “nature therapist”. I don’t believe there can even BE such a thing. NATURE is the therapist.
Have you ever felt so incredibly stressed or anxious, and, after spending some time at the park, or going for a walk through the forest, or even just tending to your garden, that you IMMEDIATELY start to feel better? This is nature therapy.
Studies have shown that, of groups of people suffering from depression and anxiety, 90% of these people feel a higher level of self-esteem after a walk through a park, and almost 75% of them feel less depressed!
Why does this happen?
It’s really not surprising that nature has a therapeutic effect when you consider that the human race has been closely bonded with it for all of our existence! It’s only in recent years that many of us have been confined to man-made environments.
For us, contact with green spaces is therefore like going back home, and it fills us with the same sense of safety and belonging. We crave nature in the same way that a child needs a mother, and we derive the same feeling of comfort from it.
I have personally struggled with anxiety for most of my lifetime, and I can attest to the relaxing, comforting feeling that I get when I am surrounded by nature. On my bad anxiety days, after spending some time with my plants, it almost feels like a weight is lifted off of my chest and I can breathe freely again.
So, how do I incorporate nature into my business?
All of my indoor plants are located inside of my massage room. It’s a work in progress, and I don’t know that I will ever be done adding plants, but we are currently at TWENTY-SEVEN plants and counting! I also have a Himalayan salt lamp located by the head of the table, as well as running water, and soft nature sounds playing in the background. With your eyes closed, you can imagine that you are anywhere you want to be.
Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I look forward to meeting you!
