As the weather warms and people head outside to enjoy spring, paying attention to spinal health becomes especially important. Activities like hiking, cycling, gardening, and even long walks can place new or increased demands on the spine after a more sedentary winter. Maintaining good posture during these activities helps reduce strain, while proper warm-ups and stretching can prepare muscles that support the spine. Strengthening the core is also key, as these muscles stabilize the back and improve balance on uneven terrain. Using proper techniques—such as bending at the knees rather than the waist when lifting or gardening—can prevent injury. With a mindful approach, outdoor spring activities can not only be enjoyable but also support a healthier, stronger spine.
Have a great spring, everyone. We are here if you overdo it to help keep that spring in your step.
