We often think feeling better means feeling less.

But sometimes, it’s the opposite.

When we push down grief and sadness, we can also quiet our capacity to feel joy, connection, and meaning.

Learning to gently make space for what’s there can be part of finding your way forward 💛

A space that feels a little softer, a little quieter, and a little more removed from the noise of everyday life 🌿

For many, it makes it just a bit easier to open up, to breathe, and to be with what’s there.

If you’ve been looking for a space like this, you’re always welcome here 💛

What you say to someone in deep grief matters but maybe not in the way you think.

It’s not about having the perfect words. It’s about meeting them where they are.

It’s so common to hear “I can’t imagine what you’re going through” when someone is in deep grief. Though well-intentioned, it often falls short of offering real comfort. Grief is uniquely personal, and while others can’t fully grasp it, their empathy can still mean the world.

I invite you to imagine the pain of others. Not to burden yourself, but to foster understanding, gratitude, and presence. Life is precious, and expressing love to those who matter can make a world of difference.

There are places that hold pieces of the people we love.

For my daughter Kamila, one of those places was Shuswap Lake in BC a place filled with laughter, friendship, and one of her favourite memories. Time spent on a houseboat, celebrating with people she loved most.

So when the time came, her friends brought her back there. At sunset, on the water, they said goodbye in a way that felt connected to who she was.

Grief has a way of weaving together heartbreak and meaning like that where even the hardest moments are rooted in love.

And sometimes, being able to share those moments with others who understand makes all the difference 💛

If you’re looking for a space like that, send me a message 🌿

Grief is already heavy enough it doesn’t need to feel endless too.

Sometimes the things people say are meant to prepare us… but what we often need most is hope.

Even in the deepest pain, there is space for things to shift, to soften, to become more bearable over time.

If you’re in it right now, how it feels today won’t always feel this way 💛

And if you’re looking for a space to be supported in that, our Grief Retreat (May 21–24, 2026 in Algonquin Park) is here for you 🌿

Meet one of the co-facilitators of the Grief Retreat 💛

Wendy Martin is known for her calming presence and gentle way of guiding people inward. She blends yoga, somatic practices, and creative work like writing, sound, and pottery to help people slow down and reconnect with themselves.

Her approach supports the nervous system in softening, creating space for grief to be felt in a way that’s grounded, supported, and not overwhelming.

If you’re looking for a space where you or someone you love can be held with care, we’ll be gathering May 21–24, 2026 in Algonquin Park 🌿

Grief rarely gives us space in everyday life.

This retreat is an invitation to step out of the noise and into a few days of care, quiet, and gentle support.

From May 21–24, I’ll be co-facilitating a 3-night retreat in the heart of Algonquin Park, a place to rest, reflect, connect, and allow grief to be present without needing to fix or rush it.

There will be nourishing meals, guided sessions, embodied practices, fire circles, nature, and space to simply be.

If this feels like something your heart has been asking for, I’d love to welcome you.

It feels really good to be back writing and sharing on the blog again.

After taking a bit of a break, I posted a new piece today: *After the Storm: Grief, Trauma, and Finding a Way Back*.

This one is deeply personal. I reflect on Vic’s recovery, returning to camp site 144 after the devastating storm our family experienced, what trauma lives on in the body, and the slow, imperfect process of finding safety and healing again after the unimaginable.

As both a psychotherapist and grief counsellor, I continue to be humbled by what grief, trauma, and the body can teach us about survival and healing.

I’ll be sharing and writing more regularly again moving forward, and I’m really grateful to reconnect through this space.

If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to take a few moments to read it, the Link is below and in my link tree in my bio. 🤍

Grief can feel like you’re caught between two versions of yourself.

Who you were before… and who you’re becoming without fully recognizing either.

That in-between space can feel disorienting, painful, and incredibly lonely.

But it won’t always feel as intense as it does right now. 🤍🦋
