Well last night was rather epic! Having had a bit of time to reflect on the experience I simply come back to an immense feeling of gratitude. Gratitude for all the people that give of themselves to our local jiu jitsu community in whatever way that may be. Whether it be hosting events, being crazy enough to start an academy or just showing up to open mats, cross training at other gyms and sharing your knowledge with others... hopefully filling your own cup in the process.

Huge congratulations to Cameron Walmsley for clinching silver in his first Budo Open appearance and looking hella slick in his Ukemi Clothing Limited gear! Also a big shoutout to Mike “The Slim Reaper” Hart for fighting hard in his first ever comp! Very proud of the whole team for all the training and for supporting each other in our goals on and off the mat… what a fam we’ve become!

Yesterday evening marked a milestone for our team in so many ways. The Garden, our lovely little space, has been open officially for 1 year and most of our members have also only been training for that same amount of time. A big milestone for Owen, Cameron, Jason and Chris competing for the first time ever as well as my first competition as a coach. While the result was 1-3 for us on the scoreboard there is much more beyond the statsheet to be proud of here at The Garden. Thanks to Judo Steve and IrIron Grip Invitational for hosting an incredible event! Thanks to my entire family here at The Garden for keeping me working and for being a part of our shared journey, love you all.

Today was a good day. Some of our crew from The Garden were lucky enough to attend a great and informative seminar with one of the world’s best grapplers Jay Rodriquez. It’s so great to have someone of this calibre make their way this far up north to share some of their knowledge with us and to have a classy club like Troop MMA hosting and openly sharing their space with other clubs!
