Vitamin C - How important is it?
By the end of this article I hope you will have a better knowledge of the wonders of Vitamin C..
Vitamin C has a plethora of clinical uses, ranging from Anemia, Arthritis, Atherosclerosis, Cold, Diabetes, Herpes infection, High Cholesterol, Infertility, Peptic Ulcers and Surgery Recovery to name just a few. Vitamin C also helps in the absorption of iron, however it has been found that iron is a detriment to the absorption of Vitamin C.
Vitamin C is used to aid those withdrawing from drug addictions such as narcotics, caffeine, ni****ne, and sugar. This is possibly due to the detoxifying antioxidant properties.
Vitamin C is not stored in the body so any excess is excreted out through the urine. For the most part vitamin c is non-toxic. The most common side effect is diarrhea, which happens when the body tissue fluids get full of ascorbic acid and usually occurs after a dose of more than 10 grams.
Scurvy was once a fairly common disease, also known as vitamin C deficiency. Scurvy is more likely to occur in formula fed infants, teenagers, and elderly who do not eat fresh fruits. Smokers with poor diets and individuals with irritable bowel syndrome tend to have lower vitamin C levels in their blood. The symptoms of scurvy are produced mainly by the effects of ascorbic acid on collagen formation. The first signs are poor resistance to infection, slow healing of wounds, bruising easily. The decrease of collagen also causes the bones to become brittle and fragile.
Most fruits and vegetables meet our daily requirements of 10-20mg of vitamin C per day. Infants need 35mg, ages 1-14 requires approximately 50mg. smokers increase their daily requirement to 200mg per day. Copper inactivates vitamin C, both ni****ne and estrogen seem to increase blood levels of copper.
Vitamin C is the most commonly consumed supplement. it comes in many different forms, Time-release capsules, chewable tablets, liquid, effervescent powders, and of course fresh fruits and vegetables.
Vitamin C works quickly and your daily dosage should be broken up over the course of the day for ultimate absorption. Daily requirements for vitamin C depends on a variety of variables, age, health, weight, and energy levels.
