This month we’re highlighting another member of the Lynn Valley Counselling team.

Meet Lauren Jennings, Registered Counsellor.

Lauren is passionate about supporting people in exploring their relationship with food, body image, and movement. Her work focuses on helping individuals gently untangle the complex connections between weight, exercise, and self-perception so they can move toward a more balanced and compassionate relationship with themselves.

In this carousel, Lauren shares a few reflections about what inspired her to become a counsellor, what she’s most passionate about supporting people through, and a small glimpse into who she is outside of the counselling room.

Lauren offers free consultation calls for those who are curious about starting counselling.

We are so pleased to share that Lynn Valley Counselling is now a collection site for Harvest Project. For those who aren’t familiar, Harvest Project does vital work right here in North Vancouver, providing “cloaking” support: everything from grocery assistance and clothing vouchers to professional counselling and rent bank kits for our neighbors navigating life’s harder seasons.

If you have an upcoming appointment in the clinic or are in the neighbourhood and have the capacity to bring something along, our donation box is ready in the waiting room.

The kids we were are still here in the way we notice when someone's holding their breath, in the gentleness we bring to shame, and in our quiet understanding of what it takes to trust someone with your story.

We don't just work with inner children. We remember being them.

International Women’s Day often feels like it belongs to the loud milestones—the glass ceilings shattered and the public victories won. And while those are vital, at Lynn Valley Counselling, we find ourselves thinking about a different kind of strength today.

We’re thinking about the quiet, internal labor that doesn't always get a podium.

It’s the courage it takes to set a boundary with a family member for the first time. It’s the resilience of a woman navigating a major life transition while still making sure there’s milk in the fridge. It’s the radical act of a perfectionist allowing herself to rest, even when the "to-do" list is screaming.

In our North Vancouver practice, we see women and folks across the spectrum of womanhood doing the heavy lifting of healing every day. Sometimes that looks like:

✅ Giving yourself permission to feel "not okay" in a world that asks you to be "on."

✅ Learning the language of your own nervous system.

✅ Honouring your capacity, even when it feels smaller than you’d like it to be.

Happy International Women's Day to the women who are leading, the women who are healing, and the women who are simply doing their best to get through the day. We see you.

We carry those younger versions of ourselves into the room with us every day. They are the parts of us that allow us to meet your own inner child.

At the end of the day, we’re just humans helping other humans find their way back to themselves. It’s a bit full-circle, isn’t it?

At Lynn Valley Counselling, we spend a lot of time with people who are doing "just fine" on paper, but feel heavy in their hearts. Maybe you’re navigating a relationship shift, feeling burnout, or even just feeling a bit disconnected from yourself.

You don’t need to wait for the crisis, and you definitely don’t need to wait until you can’t get out of bed.

Therapy is allowed to be a proactive choice. It can be a way to tend to your nervous system before it demands your attention. Think of it as a quiet hour in your week to put down the heavy things and just breathe.

Our Interns are currently accepting new clients at $80 + GST per session. Whether you're in Lynn Valley or joining us virtually from across BC, we’re here when you’re ready.

Have you ever felt like you had to "wait for a crisis" to ask for help? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. 👇

Finding a gentle place to land when navigating life’s challenges can make all the difference. We are incredibly honoured to support our North Shore community, and being named a finalist in the North Shore News Readers Choice Awards means so much to us.

It’s a privilege to walk alongside so many of you on your journeys. Thank you, North Shore, for your trust and for the opportunity to be a steady presence.

We’re here to help you move forward at your own pace, holding space for self-compassion and honouring your capacity along the way. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. 🌲💚

Let’s retire the phrase "sit with it" for a minute. 🚫

If you’ve ever been in a session and thought, "I’m sitting! I’m sitting! Now what?" This one is for you.

Sometimes "sitting with your feelings" sounds like an invitation to a marathon of misery. It can feel like we’re asking you to stare into the sun or stay stuck in a dark room until you "figure it out."

But at Lynn Valley Counselling, we’re big fans of honouring your capacity. If "sitting" with a big emotion feels like too much today, try "noticing" instead.

Notice the way your breath catches.

Notice the buzz of anxiety in your hands.

Notice the "un-comfortability."

And then? Give yourself permission to keep moving. You don’t have to stay there until it’s "fixed." You only need to acknowledge that it’s real.

Healing isn't about how long you can stay in the heavy stuff; it’s about learning that you can survive the visit.

🌲 We’re here to help you navigate those "visits." Whether you prefer the grounded presence of an in-person session in North Vancouver or the comfort of your own couch via virtual therapy, we have space for you.

Low-cost intern sessions are available at $80 + GST to make support more accessible to our community. ✨ Tell us in the comments: What’s a "therapy phrase" that’s always felt a bit confusing to you?

Will the therapist side with my partner?
Are they just going to tell us to break up?

Let's pull back the curtain on what actually happens in couples counselling.

We're not here to judge or pick sides. We're here to look at the system between you, the patterns, the triggers, and the places where you lose each other.

It's less about "who's right" and more about "how do we find each other again?"

Most of us wait until the house is on fire to look for the exit.

We've been taught that couples therapy is the last resort, the thing you do right before calling it quits.

But what if couples counselling isn't about fixing what's broken? What if it's about building a relationship that can actually hold the complexity of two full human lives?

It's the difference between we're fine and we're connected.

It's learning to repair a small hurt before it calcifies into years of resentment.

You don't need to be in crisis to seek support. In fact, the strongest relationships are built by people who get help before they're desperate for it.

Breaking cycles can be exhausting work.

If you are parenting while simultaneously healing your own inner child, you are doing two jobs at once. It’s okay if you feel depleted. It’s okay if "gentle parenting" feels anything but gentle on your own nervous system some days.

At Lynn Valley Counselling, we provide a steady space for parents to process the transitions, the triggers, and the triumphs of raising humans while staying human themselves.

You don’t have to carry the weight of "getting it right" all by yourself. 🌲
