✨ Getting to know our counsellors (the real-life version!)

Meet Harriet, one of our intern counsellors currently completing her Master of Counselling at City University.

With a background in child development, caregiving, and community-based support work, Harriet brings warmth, curiosity, and a genuine desire to help others feel seen and supported. Her approach is collaborative, down-to-earth, and rooted in the belief that healing looks different for everyone.

Drawing from narrative therapy, DBT skills, and family systems work, Harriet supports clients in reconnecting with their resilience and sense of self. She creates a safe, flexible space for reflection, healing, and growth.

And because therapists are human too…
Unfortunately, she does love buying fresh produce just to let it go on a spiritual journey in her fridge, saying “I’ll just watch one episode” like she’s never met herself before, and reorganizing her to-do list more than actually doing the to-dos. She also loves being both the calmest and most emotionally chaotic person in the room, and saying “I read a study” when she really means “I saw a therapist on Instagram say.”

Harriet offers both in-person and virtual sessions at a reduced intern rate.

As the fall and winter months bring shorter days and longer to-do lists, it can be harder to make time for yourself.

Virtual counselling removes some of those barriers offering consistent, flexible support that fits into real life.

It’s not about convenience alone, it’s about making mental health care accessible, sustainable, and steady through every season.

Sometimes therapy means laughing at the parts of ourselves we’re still learning to understand.

Because let’s be honest, we all have a few “haunted house” moments…

The echoes of “I’m fine,” the creaky floors of old coping patterns, the occasional jump scare of realizing, “oh… that’s what that was about.”

Growth doesn’t have to be heavy all the time, sometimes it’s just noticing, smiling, and saying, “Yep, that’s me.”

✨ Getting to know our counsellors (the real-life version!)

Meet Brett, one of our intern counsellors currently completing her Master of Counselling Psychology at Adler University.

Brett takes a trauma-informed, emotion-focused approach grounded in empathy, equity, and respect. She works with adult clients navigating emotional concerns, relational challenges, or a sense of disconnection from self. With a focus on safety and curiosity, she helps clients explore their inner world to foster self-understanding, resilience, and meaningful change.

Her integrative approach draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), always adapting to meet each person where they are.

And because therapists-in-training are human too…
Unfortunately, she does love old-school mobster movies, cozy rainy days, and spending her weekends knitting. She also loves when clients want to talk about a dream they had — and holding silence in therapy just long enough to let insight find its way to the surface.

Brett offers both in-person and virtual sessions at a reduced intern rate. Learn more or book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

✨ Getting to know our counsellors (the real-life version!)

Meet Emma McLellan, Registered Clinical Counsellor and founder of Lynn Valley Counselling.

Emma created LVC with a vision to offer grounded, compassionate, and accessible mental health support on the North Shore. As Clinical Director, she continues to guide the team and ensure each client experience reflects the core values of safety, inclusivity, and care.

Her counselling approach is collaborative and calming, integrating mind–body connection, mindfulness, and emotion-focused work. She supports individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, and grief, drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities including EFT, Narrative Therapy, and the Gottman Method.

And because even clinical directors are human too…
Unfortunately, she does love eating peanut butter straight out of the jar, baby snuggles that cancel her productivity plans, and reorganizing office décor instead of writing notes. She also loves normalizing crying in therapy, bringing out the feelings wheel a little too often, and hearing a client say, “That’s a good question.”

Emma is currently on maternity leave, but continues to support the LVC team and our shared mission of making therapy feel safe, human, and healing.

Artificial intelligence is quietly reshaping how people approach mental health. And while AI tools can offer insight and reflection, healing requires some things that only humans can give: empathy, safety, and relational connection.

At Lynn Valley Counselling, we believe that true change happens in relationship.

Our team offers both in-person and virtual counselling across British Columbia, so you can access support wherever you are with real people who listen, care, and help you find your way forward.

Artificial intelligence is becoming part of daily life — including how people explore their emotions and mental health.

While AI can make support more accessible and help people start reflecting on their well-being, it can never replace the human connection that makes therapy truly healing.

In our latest blog post, we explore both sides:
🧠 The potential benefits of AI in mental health support
⚠️ The risks of relying on it as a substitute for therapy
🌿 Why human connection remains essential for real growth and healing

✨ Getting to know our counsellors (the real-life version!)

Meet Deb Cehak, Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Deb works with individuals, couples, and families of all ages — from young children and teens to adults. Her approach is rooted in collaboration, curiosity, and respect. Through narrative therapy, she helps clients explore how life’s challenges and stories shape our sense of self and guides them toward more joyful and connected ways of living.

Her counselling style is relational, inclusive, and deeply compassionate — she strives to create a space where clients feel safe, open-mindedly met, and understood.

And because therapists are human too…
Unfortunately, she does love milk chocolate like a Labrador retriever loves all food, going to bed so early her kids are often still awake, and yelling, dancing, or crying to music so loud she can’t hear herself think when she’s processing big feelings.

Deb offers both in-person and virtual sessions. Learn more or book a free consultation with her through the link in our bio.

🤍 Today, we pause to honour Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

We hold space for the many forms grief can take — for parents, families, and loved ones who carry loss in their hearts each and every day.

If you are lighting a candle tonight, know that your love is seen. Your grief is valid. And you are not alone.

Whether you’ve experienced loss personally or are supporting someone who has, gentle care and connection can make a difference. Therapy can offer a safe place to share, process, and begin to heal at your own pace.

🌷 You are welcome to reach out for support through the link in our bio.

A space that was meant to celebrate culture, connection, and community was touched by unimaginable violence. We mourn with those impacted and hold space for grief, anger, fear, and solidarity.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for help, no one should have to navigate this alone.
We are offering two free crisis counselling sessions to anyone impacted by the events at the Lapu Lapu festival.
We are sending love, strength, and support to everyone impacted by this heartbreaking event.
