Enamel (the outer layer of the tooth) is precious! Once itās lost itās gone forever. Thatās why protecting enamel is so important. Acid erosion (from acids in drinks, diet, or reflux), tooth on tooth wear, brushing too hard, using abrasive toothpastes, and clenching, grinding or bite problems all lead to enamel loss. So how do you protect your enamel? - Watch acid sources in your diet, - Use a soft toothbrush and donāt brush too hard. - Have your bite checked to catch early signs of tooth wear. - Get screened for sleep apnea which can contribute to both acid erosion and tooth wear. - If areas without enamel are identified, those areas need to be covered with a restorative material to prevent further deterioration.
