COMMUNITY CLEAN UP!! Our Vancouver Smile Studio team took to the streets yesterday to do a clean sweep of our neighborhood here on the North Shore. We ❤️ our North Shore Community and had a surprising amount of fun out in the sun together making things a little cleaner. Win-win!! ☀️ 🗑️ 🍃

A healthy smile is a beautiful smile!

Here are some tips and tricks to keep a good oral hygiene routine:

* Thorough brushing at least twice a day, is a very important step in preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Brushing removes the bacteria that promotes tooth decay and the plaque that can cause gum disease. Using a 45 degree angle, direct the bristles to where your gums and teeth meet. Use a circular, massaging motion. Don’t scrub! Receding gums are often a result of brushing too hard.

* Flossing at least once a day, removes plaque and bacteria that you cannot reach with your toothbrush. If you don’t floss, you are missing more than one-third of your tooth surface. Plaque is the main cause of gum disease. It is an invisible bacterial film that develops on your teeth every day. Wrap the floss around your middle fingers and slide it between your teeth with your index fingers. Wrap the floss into a “C” shape around the base of the tooth and gently under the gemlike. Wipe the tooth from base to tip two or three times.

Your smile matters. Call us at 604-984-9381 to book your next hygiene appointment or leave us an appointment request through vancouversmilestudio.com.

Enamel (the outer layer of the tooth) is precious! Once it’s lost it’s gone forever. That’s why protecting enamel is so important. Acid erosion (from acids in drinks, diet, or reflux), tooth on tooth wear, brushing too hard, using abrasive toothpastes, and clenching, grinding or bite problems all lead to enamel loss. So how do you protect your enamel? - Watch acid sources in your diet, - Use a soft toothbrush and don’t brush too hard. - Have your bite checked to catch early signs of tooth wear. - Get screened for sleep apnea which can contribute to both acid erosion and tooth wear. - If areas without enamel are identified, those areas need to be covered with a restorative material to prevent further deterioration.

Dark spaces between teeth can appear as the bone and gum around the teeth change. Often, your bite can contribute to these changes. By changing the bite in this case we set things on a different trajectory for the future. This patient chose a natural shade for his new smile, and we are all thrilled with his results.
