✨ Investing in better prevention for our patients ✨

Our hygiene team recently completed training on our newest piece of equipment — the Air Polisher.

This advanced technology allows our hygienists to gently and effectively remove biofilm and surface stains while improving the overall preventive care we provide. Using a fine stream of air, water, and polishing powder, the air polisher helps us reach areas that traditional polishing sometimes misses, leaving teeth feeling exceptionally clean and smooth.

It’s especially helpful for removing stubborn stains from coffee, tea, and wine, and for disrupting harmful biofilm that contributes to cavities and gum disease.

At Ardent Dental, we believe great dentistry starts with prevention — and investing in the latest technology and ongoing training for our team is part of that commitment.

Our hygienists are excited to bring this new level of care to your visits!

When was the last time you swapped out your toothbrush? 🤔 Your smile depends on it!

Here’s the scoop: dental pros say change your manual brush or electric head every 2-3 months. Why? Worn-out bristles just can’t tackle plaque, which can lead to tartar, gum issues, and even bad breath. If your brush looks frayed, discoloured, or you’ve been sick lately, it’s definitely time for a new one—those bristles can hold onto germs you don’t want back in your mouth.

✦ Pro tip: After every use, rinse with hot water and store upright where it can air dry (not tucked away in a dark cabinet). Keep it far from the toilet for extra peace of mind and never, ever share your toothbrush—even with your kids!

Kids’ brushes need freshening up more often, about every 2 months or right after illness. Supervising little ones helps keep those bristles in shape, and letting them choose bright colours or fun designs can make dental care feel less like a chore.

• Brushing more than twice a day, pressing too hard, or using a low-quality brush wears out bristles faster. Choose a soft-bristled, dentist-approved brush for happier gums and better cleaning.

⭐ Quick check: When did you last look at your toothbrush? Take a peek right now—your next great smile starts with bristles that work!

Ever wondered if getting older means your teeth just “wear out”? 🦷✨ Let’s set the record straight: aging changes your smile, but it doesn’t have to mean constant dental problems!

Here’s what really happens as we age:
✦ Enamel naturally thins over time from years of chewing and acidic foods, which can make teeth more sensitive and prone to chips or cavities.
✦ Gums may slowly recede, exposing softer root surfaces—hello, sensitivity! Gum disease also becomes more common, especially if plaque has built up or the immune system is weaker.
✦ Dry mouth is another sneaky issue, often caused by medications or health conditions. Less saliva means higher risk of cavities, mouth infections, and trouble with dentures or dental implants.
✦ Daily dental care habits and lifestyle choices play a huge role. Brushing, flossing, using fluoride, and limiting sugary snacks make a real difference—no matter your age.

The good news?⭐ Many of these changes are preventable. Simple steps like using a soft toothbrush, managing dry mouth, and regular dentist visits keep your smile strong and healthy for years to come.

Is your headache actually starting in your jaw? 🤔💭

You might be surprised—many people don’t realize that jaw tension, teeth grinding, or even hidden dental issues could be behind their headaches. It’s more connected than you think!

✦ TMJ disorders, bite problems, and bruxism (that’s teeth grinding or clenching) can strain the muscles and nerves around your jaw. This tension often travels up to your temples, scalp, and can trigger migraines or morning headaches.

• Dental infections, abscesses, or impacted wisdom teeth may cause pain to radiate into the head or even mimic sinus headaches. Sometimes these patterns make it easy to miss the real cause.

• If your headaches show up after chewing, talking, or waking up, or you notice jaw pain, popping, or trouble opening your mouth—those could all be signs your teeth or jaw are involved.

• A dental checkup can uncover hidden issues: from bite misalignment to bruxism or infections. Solutions like night guards, TMJ therapies, therapeutic Botox injections or treating infections can make a real difference in how often and how severely you feel head pain.

👇 If you can’t pinpoint the reason for your headaches or you feel that they are related to your teeth, jaws or jaw joints, consider chatting with your dentist or healthcare provider about your symptoms.

Tonsil Stones: Small, Common… and Surprisingly Smelly

Ever noticed persistent bad breath, a strange taste, or a feeling like something’s stuck in your throat? You might be dealing with tonsil stones 👀

✨ What are they?
Tonsil stones (tonsilloliths) are tiny, calcified deposits made of food particles, bacteria, and dead cells that get trapped in the natural folds of your tonsils.

🚨 Common signs include:
• Chronic bad breath
• Bad taste that won’t go away
• Throat irritation or soreness
• A “lump” sensation when swallowing
• Occasional ear discomfort

💡 Good news:
Most tonsil stones are harmless and manageable with good oral hygiene, hydration, and simple habits like salt-water gargles. In some cases, your dentist or doctor may need to take a closer look—especially if symptoms keep coming back.

🪥 Prevention tips:
✔ Brush and floss daily (don’t forget your tongue!)
✔ Stay well hydrated
✔ Rinse after meals
✔ Avoid smoking

If you or your child are struggling with ongoing bad breath or throat discomfort, a dental checkup can help rule out tonsil stones—and other oral health issues.

Are you brushing your teeth right for your age…or just brushing?

Brushing might seem simple, but different ages need different techniques for truly healthy smiles. Tiny teeth and adult teeth both need gentle care—but in slightly different ways.

For kids, gentle habits are everything! A soft-bristled toothbrush, a pea-sized dab of fluoride toothpaste (once they can spit), and small, gentle circles make all the difference. Have your child brush on their own but it is essential that you take the toothbrush and brush their teeth yourself until at least age 7 or 8 to help build skills and confidence—those early years are when habits (and protection against cavities) truly start.

Adults, your mouth changes too! Keep brushing twice a day for two minutes, but don’t forget that plaque sneaks in at the gumline. Go easy with a soft brush—scrubbing hard can actually harm enamel and gums. And remember to swap out your brush every 3–4 months (or sooner if it’s looking worn).

No matter your age or needs, one rule stands: gentle wins. Overbrushing can do more harm than good, causing sensitivity and even leading to more complex dental care in the future. Think of brushing as a gentle massage, not a power scrub.

⭐ How confident are you in your family’s brushing routine? Take a moment today to check in, talk technique, and bring any questions to your dental visits!

✨ Drop a comment if you learned something new, or tag a friend who could use a brushing boost!
