Slow Media

Slow media is a mindful cinematic practice, anchored in the concept of experiencing, creating and sharing our world in real time.

It was created by filmmakers for filmmakers. What's your window on the world? We are a community of filmmakers, friends, creators and citizens of nature that aim to explore how media affects society. We are serving these aims through research, public education, content creation and distribution, as well as financial assistance for selected practitioners. We know there is substantial power in cinema, and that simple composition presented in real time can teach us new lessons about land, our world, our craft and the way we interact with technology. Our concentration is on long form images of the earth, and the life and culture of the earth. Our technical parameters are simple and will be found on our website. You too, can be a practitioner of Slow Media and contribute to our world wide visual medicine cabinet.

Such a pleasure to spend some time with Inuit master filmmaker and friend, Zacharius Kunuk, this past weekend here in Vancouver. I was able to thank Zach directly for his incredible work, and the inspiration he provided for SLOW MEDIA with his films that featured our homelands as main characters in his feature films!

So pleased that V'ni Dansi has taken the MICHIF MEDICINES show on the road to Saskatoon this weekend! Our Slow Media backgrounds bring the land and the medicines to the People!

We’ve traveled all the way to Saskatoon to bring La Mitchin di Mitchif to the stage! 🌱✨ Inspired by the healing power of Mitchif plant medicines, this contemporary dance piece pays homage to Métis culture and history through movement. We’re so excited for opening night tomorrow at The Refinery Arts & Spirit Centre, presented by the Gordon Tootoosis Nikaniwin Theatre. Join us Thursday to Saturday evening at 7:30pm, and a Sunday matinee to close out the weekend! 💃
