Hey gang!

We have one 6 week spot open for Lunch Grit this fall: Wednesdays Nov 5-Dec 10 12-1pm.

It’s the perfect break for kids half way through the week to check in, take a breather from playground politics, stay warm and dry, and be filled up with good + calm.

Good for either grades 3-5 or 6-7 and needs to be North or West Van (just for logistics in this specific time slot).

LMK if your school wants it!

The most common request I hear from parents is for help navigating their kids’ friendship dynamics — what we sometimes call playground politics.

Friendships are tricky. And elementary school is both the training ground and the fire pit.
It’s easy to blame individual kids for certain behaviours, to label someone “the bully.” But that helps no one — and it misses a deeper truth: at some point in our lives, we’ve all been both the bully and the bullied.

So let’s dig in. Let’s figure this out together. Let’s give kids the tools to turn those hard emotions — jealousy, anger, insecurity, the deep need to belong — into actions of kindness and inclusion.

Because when we do, we lay the foundation for pro-social behaviour that lasts a lifetime.

Friendship Lab — is a practical, mindful workshop for grades 1-3, where kids explore big emotions, role-play tricky friendship scenarios, brainstorm conflict resolutions, and tap into their naturally kind, social selves.

They’ll leave feeling empowered, informed, and ready to handle whatever friendship challenges the year brings.

Ask your PAC to reach out and book it in. alix@gritworkshops.ca 🤜🏼🧠

Kids don’t actually mean to be mean.

In grades 1–3, kids are just beginning to explore how friendships and social power work — but they haven’t yet learned how to handle the tricky emotions that come with it: anger, jealousy, insecurity. So there’s often a disconnect between what they want (to belong) and how they try to get it (through exclusion, gossip, or manipulation instead of compassion and kindness).

By giving kids the language to name their feelings and the tools to manage them in healthy, pro-social ways, we can lay the groundwork for a lifetime of positive, empathetic pro-social relationships.

In our Grit for Parents workshop we dive into how to support our kids through an emotional storm.

We talk about using neuroscience and psychology to help them transition from the back of their brain to the front, and we talk about being an anchor in their emotional storm.

It works to grow an emotionally healthy brain in kids - but shockingly, also works for anyone we’re in a relationship with. (For more relationship advice, follow me! 😂🤪)

The prefrontal cortex (responsible for self-regulation) is still developing in kids, so they rely on the mature nervous systems around them (basically parents and teachers).

How do we support our own brain health in order to model that for our kiddos?

Let’s chat in a Grit for Parents Workshop 👉🏽🧠

Did you know there’s a difference between mental resilience and emotional resilience?

One gives us the ability to think clearly and problem solve, while the other allows us to recover after the big hard emotions sweep in. But the process in growing a strong, resilient brain is really the same.

It’s what we do in Grit.
It’s what we teach in the classroom.
