August is over half way gone…

This summer has been a season of learning for me as a therapist and as a human being. 🌱

I’ve been reminded that healing isn’t linear, that relationships are both our deepest source of joy and sometimes our hardest lessons, and that slowing down is just as important as moving forward.

What stood out most is how often the lessons I witness in the therapy room mirror the lessons in my own life: about trust, vulnerability, boundaries, and the courage it takes to show up authentically.

I wonder, what has this season taught you?

You have this ability to just pick up on even the slightest changes in your partner. You notice the slight shift in mood before they even realize they’re upset.

People say you have the ability to read people well. 🤓

True hypervigilance is like having your internal alarm system set on the highest volume, scanning your surroundings for danger signals. ‼️

In your romantic relationships, this heightened awareness can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it equips you with a profound empathy and understanding of your partner’s feelings and can make you a caring, intuitive partner who fosters deep emotional connection.

But on the other hand, it can cause you to misinterpret neutral signals as negative ones, leading to unnecessary worry or conflict.

Healing a state of hypervigilance means training your mind to differentiate between past threats and current realities. It means building safety in the today to help show your body that you safe now. 🫶🏼

Is this something you’re hoping to work on?

A week in Alaska with other therapists! 🏔️🌊

So what did it look like? Often times clients wonder what I get up to when I’m away for training… and this is definitely one for the books. Not only did I spend time learning, gaining knowledge and insight into how I can best support my clients and myself as a therapist and business owner… but I got to do it with an amazing group of therapist in a place I always wanted to explore!

How do you make learning a part of your practice? What are some of your favourite experiences this year?

This one hits home 🏡

What emotion do you find yourself running from? And even more so, what coping mechanism do you use to help run from it?

Emotions are complex, overwhelming at times, and a part of being human. ❤️

Really going back to the basics is what’s needed sometimes to move forward. ❤️

You’re doing the best you can with what you have- and that is enough.

Emotions 🫣

The word that can hold so much.

Emotions share so many stories with us but sometimes they feel like they are on overdrive or so loud it seems we can’t even think straight- driving out every move.

When your emotions are on its highest volume and you can’t seem to find the remote- what do you do?

Do you distract, pull away, ignore until you no longer feel? Or do you find ways to cope that in the moment feel relieving but just come back around to feel all over again?

Whichever one it may be for you, this is your gentle reminder that therapy can help support you. Whether it’s exploring emotions to not only express them but to understand them or it’s to learn where these emotions are coming from and how to navigate them in the moment.

Emotions are valid.

A little reminder that healing is happening.

If you took a moment and truly looked at how far you’ve come, would you be able to go back without anything changing? Probably not.

Hear me out.

The work you’ve done and the work you’ve been doing towards recovery, towards healing… it allows you take up more space, more time, more energy in other areas.

Sometimes it may not seem like you’re healing, and I hear you- we want change. We don’t want to feel this way. But take a look at the steps you have taken. You wouldn’t be where you are without those steps.

So keep stepping… step by step. 🪷🫶🏼

Safety.

When we think of safety we often think physically but in therapy it’s so much more than that.

Coming into the office, into the space where stories are told, emotions and thoughts are explored… is a place of vulnerability.

A place where vulnerability requires emotional safety.

What creates emotionally safety for you?

Feeling misunderstood can feel incredibly lonely, isolating even- as if we’re on the outside. This feeling can be especially triggering on a day to day basis if we were raised in a household where our family members, our caregivers, our parental support system didn’t understand us, or take the time to get to know us on a deeper level.

Reminding yourself even in these moments, with self-compassion and softness that you are not on the outside because of someone’s inability to get to know you.

Therapy can be a beautiful safe space where you can explore who you are and feel heard, understood and valued for who you are… showing up as you are. ✨

Mental health and the workplace!

Over the past few years, I have had the incredible opportunity to connect with hydro companies across Canada! ⚡️⚡️

And within those connections, I have developed and presented workshops for Powerline Technicians, the Operations Managers and the office staff. With each workshop comes unique conversations, stories, debates and learning.

Are you looking to further your knowledge and understanding of mental health and illness? Are you wanting to connect deeper, maybe even challenge yourself and others? Are you wanting to have tools to support the people you work along side if the time comes? Or even your family and self?

Reach out if you’re looking to learn more about workshops in the workplace!
