Meet Brad Walker, our Vice President, Health, Safety & Environment.

Brad joined Neptune more than 8 years ago and is responsible for the leadership of the safety and environmental teams and management systems. He brings a diverse background from the oil and gas and power generation sectors, with experience spanning capital projects, operations and maintenance, and health and safety and environmental roles.

Outside of work, Brad and his family are proud North Vancouver locals who love making the most of everything the mountains have to offer — from mountain biking to snowboarding. As regular trail users, they've also given back by volunteering with the North Shore Mountain Biking Association on trail building and maintenance projects.

We're lucky to have Brad on the team, bringing both expertise and a deep connection to the community we call home.

Each day, 4 to 5 trains arrive at Neptune, and our team works hard to unload each one quickly so they can return to the mines and keep the Canadian supply chain moving.

On average, we unload:

• A 205-car potash train in 12.5 hours
• A 152-car steelmaking coal train in 3.85 hours

Rail is what connects the mines of Saskatchewan and BC to our terminal — and to markets overseas.

Celebrating International Women’s Day across the waterfront.

Last Friday, women from Neptune joined colleagues at the Waterfront DEI Council’s 2nd Annual International Women’s Day High Tea, a gathering dedicated to recognizing women across the sector.

This year’s theme, “Giving to Gain: Beliefs That Shape Our Impact,” created space for reflection, shared stories, and open conversation about leadership, courage, and the importance of supporting one another as we continue to build stronger pathways for women in our industry.

The event brought together leaders from across the waterfront to share perspectives and experiences, including Lindsay Thorley, Operations Superintendent at Neptune Terminals, who participated as one of the speakers.

Thank you to the Waterfront DEI Council, the BC Maritime Employers Association, and everyone who made this event possible.

This International Women’s Day, we recognize the achievements, contributions and leadership of the women who work at Neptune and help make us successful every day.

Across operations, maintenance, environmental management, human resources, community engagement, finance, administration and more, they make an impact on our business.

Today is an opportunity to acknowledge their contributions and the important role they play within our workplace and industry.

Proud to call North Vancouver home since 1968.

From construction in 1967 — including the development of deep-sea berths and the first potash storage shed — to the first ship to call at Neptune, the M/V Oriental Banker, loaded with Canadian potash bound for Japan, our story has grown alongside the working harbour and the community around it.

Since those early days, operations have expanded from a handling capacity of 3.2 million tonnes to more than 30 million tonnes annually, all within the same geographic footprint.

Our team has grown to more than 400 people, and long-standing partnerships have formed with over 30 local community organizations supporting children, youth, families, seniors, and environmental initiatives.

More than five decades later, we remain deeply connected to the place and people who have shaped our story from the beginning.

Ever wondered what a bulk shipping terminal actually does?

Bulk terminals handle commodities transported in large quantities without packaging or containers, meaning materials are loaded directly into the holds of ships rather than into containers.

At Neptune Terminals, Canadian potash and steelmaking coal arrive by rail and move through a coordinated loading process designed to support safe and efficient operations.

As one of North America’s largest multi-product terminals, we have the capacity to handle over 30 million tonnes each year, linking mines to global markets to ensure Canadian resources move reliably and contribute to the local, regional, and national economies.

Bulk shipping may happen behind the scenes, but it plays a critical role in how Canadian commodities reach the world.

Pink Shirt Day is a reminder of the importance of kindness, respect, inclusion, and looking out for one another in our workplaces and communities.

Today, our team joined others across Canada in wearing pink to take a stand against bullying and support safe and respectful environments where everyone feels valued.

Being located on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet in the Port of Vancouver means operating within a working harbour that connects Canadian resources to global markets. Every day, ships, rail, and people move through this space — supporting national supply chains while being part of the North Shore community and the surrounding natural ecosystem.

A view of the working harbour where Canadian commodities are connected to markets all over the world.

Reducing underwater noise is one of the ways the marine industry is working to help protect at-risk whale populations.

We're excited to share this update from the Port of Vancouver’s ECHO Program, which this year is trialing a voluntary slowdown in March in Haro Strait and Boundary Pass. Research shows that southern resident killer whales are historically present in this area during the spring, with peak presence in March, and the goal is to help reduce underwater noise from commercial shipping during this important period.

As part of the trial, ships are encouraged to slow down while transiting through the area:

• 14.5 knots or less for vehicle carriers, cruise, and container ships
• 11 knots for bulk carriers, tankers, and government vessels

Neptune Terminals has supported ECHO initiatives in previous years, with ships departing from our terminal exceeding the industry average for participation. Efforts like these demonstrate how collaboration across the industry can help advance practices that support marine ecosystems while maintaining safe and efficient operations within a working harbour.

Be a Challenger Baseball Buddy and make a difference in the North Shore community.

As a supporter of Challenger Baseball, we’re glad to share this opportunity from Highlands Baseball’s North Shore Challenger division, which is currently seeking volunteer buddies for the 2026 season.

Buddies support participants during game days, helping create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming experience for all players. Beyond the opportunity to participate in team sport, the program also creates meaningful connections and a special bond between players and their buddies.

The 2026 season runs from Saturday, April 11 to Saturday, June 27, with games played each Saturday from 9:45 a.m. to approximately 11:15–11:30 a.m. at Norgate Park in North Vancouver.
