Happy and healthy New Year everyone!
It's that time of year we decide to start healthy and get back on track, but how about setting yourself up to stay and feel healthy for what works for you and your life?
Health and Fitness is self care.
It is a lifestyle.
It is also about prioritizing You and Your health.
It feels great!
It is truly amazing how health brings wealth in all other areas of your life.
Here are some tips to not just start healthy, but stay fit, strong, energized, and in peak health:
- Set behavioral goals rather than outcome goals, ie instead of a goal of losing 10 lb, the behavioral goal would be, cut out processed foods, eat more veggies, and exercise 3 X a week
- Schedule health into your calendar and put it in first building your work and other to do's around it
- Set realistic stretch goals you feel an 8 or 9 out of 10 you can do, then build on those
- Get a buddy, trainer, or accountability partner if you know you wont do it on your own
- Know your Why of why you want it or why it is important to you and post it to view it daily
- All or None is a perfect world, I haven't found that yet have you? So get back on the horse even if you have a bad day, week, or weekend because consistency is key.
Lastly, it is so important to know your body and what works for you. It can be different for everyone so listen and learn from your body.
Here are a few tips that work for a lot of people:
- Walking daily for healthy weight management
- Decrease carbohydrates in diet or portion size like pasta, rice, bread, muffins
- Weight training or body weight exercises 2-3 times a week
- Increase fibre, greens, veggies in diet at all or most meals
- Cardiovascular exercise in your target heart rate zone or HITT training for shorter intervals
- Getting in a daily or weekly routine with your exercise at set times around your schedule
- Eat enough protein and good fats to level blood glucose levels and feel full
- Have a training program or goal and update it regularly for variety, challenge, and commitment
Have fun, commit to you, and feel great.
