Soft morning with a small circle and big conversations 🤍

Today’s BYOBaby was a cozy one with Ruth from , where we talked all things postpartum mental health — especially the reality of intrusive thoughts (and how common they actually are), while our babies played, we sipped coffee, shared stories, and enjoyed some donuts 🍩

A gentle reminder that you’re not alone in this season 🤍

If you’ve been craving community like this, come join us at the next BYOBaby

“Things your labour nurse wants to tell you… but won’t 👀”

Early labour can feel confusing—especially when contractions start, stop, and don’t yet follow a clear pattern.

In many cases, early labour is best spent at home when both you and baby are well. Guidance from Perinatal Services BC and the World Health Organization supports staying in a calm, supportive environment during early labour, as this can improve comfort and may reduce the likelihood of unnecessary interventions later on.

At home, you’re able to rest, move freely, eat, hydrate, and support your body’s natural labour hormones—without the added pressure of a clinical setting too soon.

The biggest thing to watch isn’t one symptom—it’s the pattern:
contractions that become longer, stronger, and closer together over time.

And if you’re ever unsure, you can always check in with your care team 🤍

Save this for when things start to feel real.

“Is this labour… or not?” 👀

Early labour can feel confusing, especially when things feel inconsistent at the start.

Instead of focusing on one single sign, look at the pattern:
contractions that become longer, stronger, and closer together are the clearest indicator that things are progressing.

And remember—early labour is still labour. It can take time to become obvious, and that’s completely normal 🤍

Cervical change defines labour, but you don’t always need to know your cervical status to understand what’s happening. In many cases, your contraction pattern and how you’re coping tells you more. Cervical checks are typically more relevant if you’re considering pain management options.

If you’re ever unsure, you can always check in with your care team.

Save this for later so you’re not second guessing 🤍

POV: your postpartum nurse is asking the same questions on repeat… because we’re making sure nothing important gets missed 🤍😅

Feeding, baby checks, bladder, bleeding, rest—yes we ask it all (more than once). It might feel repetitive, but it’s all part of keeping you and baby safe, stable, and supported in those early postpartum days 🤍

We know it’s a lot when you’re exhausted and recovering, but every check has a purpose—even the ones that happen at 3am 😅

Ever noticed that newborn yellow tint? 💛

There’s a reason it’s so common in those first days—and it all starts with how baby transitions after birth.

As newborns adjust to life outside the womb, their body naturally breaks down extra red blood cells, which produces bilirubin. That buildup is what can cause that yellow appearance we call jaundice 👶✨

Most of the time, it’s a normal part of newborn adaptation and resolves with feeding and time—but it’s still something we keep an eye on in those early days.

Save this for when you need a quick refresher 🤍
