Did you know? You actually have two vagus nerves...
There's one on the right and one on the left — each carrying vital information between your brain and almost every major organ.
These nerves sit very close to the upper cervical spine.
And while an adjustment doesn’t directly stimulate the vagus nerve, it can help release tension and interference in the surrounding structures that influence how well the nerve functions.
Here’s why that matters:
The vagus nerve is a mixed nerve, made of both sensory and motor fibers.
But around 80% are sensory, meaning most vagus activity is information traveling from the body to the brain — constant updates from your throat, heart, lungs, and digestive system.
The remaining motor fibers send signals from the brain down to regulate:
- Heart rate
- Breathing patterns
- Digestion & gut motility
- Swallowing & speech
- Even Immune + inflammatory responses
Your vagus nerves are two of the most important communication highways in your body.
You may not know but stress can create tension or protective patterns around the upper part of the neck — often long before you even feel stiffness or discomfort? And no, a stiff neck doesn’t automatically mean vagus nerve compression. But chronic, unnoticed tension in this area can actually affect how well the vagus nerve functions.
When it comes to nerves:
Function = Communication
Poor communication can mean
- Regulation becomes harder
- Slower Recovery
- Poor Digestion, sleep, mood, energy
Maybe subtly at first… then more noticeably over time.
This is where neuro-focused chiropractic care becomes powerful.
Our goal isn’t just to improve movement — it’s to remove nervous system interference so your body can return to its natural state of regulation, adaptability, and healing.
By restoring clarity between brain and body (including the vagus nerves), we help your system shift out of chronic stress and back into the calm, connected rest-and-digest state where true health is built.
Your body is designed to heal.
Sometimes it just needs the communication restored.
