Good News Participant Success Story via Metrics Activation Program (MAP) at Metrics Vocational Services by Tracey Kibble, Metrics VR Services Manager
MAP targets individuals who have been unable to return to work or fully engage in activities of daily living. MAP was developed using evidence-based best practices and utilizes current, data driven methodologies. MAP provides weekly one-on-one sessions, addressing areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure, while applying fundamental principles of self-efficacy, motivational interviewing, and goal setting.
Metrics VR Services Manager, Tracey Kibble, was working with a MAP participant who has longstanding diagnoses of fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and major depressive disorder. This participant has struggled for 20+ years to consistently maintain employment due to physical and mental health barriers.
When gathering baseline data from the participants at the start of the program, it’s always insightful to see how much improvement they’ve had throughout the program. For this participant in particular, over the course of the 6-week program, her Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) score decreased from the “moderate depression” range to the “mild mood disturbance” range. Further, her Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) score decreased from the “moderate anxiety” range to the “low anxiety” range.
Additionally, targeted and customized goal setting is an integral part of MAP and below are some examples of her individual goals, where she made considerable progress.
1) She worked on better managing her household tasks. She expressed that she felt her performance in completing household tasks has increased 70%, and her satisfaction in this area has increased 60%
2) She has felt socially isolated during the pandemic and wanted to work on re-connecting with friends and family more, in person. She has then reconnected by phone and in person with several people and feels that her social life is 70% more satisfying now
It’s always encouraging to hear our participants’ positive experience and how MAP has improved the quality of their life. This participant indicated that “MAP has made a difference and that she wished MAP had happened sooner”.
