Do you ever feel tired after listening to someone speak for a long period of time? ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐ฅฑ Using your ears (and your brain) to hear is similar to working out a muscle... It makes you tired! ๐ช๐ง Listening fatigue is normally experienced after listening to sounds for an extended period of time. ๐ฃ๐ฆ When someone has a hearing loss, listening fatigue can arise sooner, since the extra challenge of the hearing loss often causes more struggling and mental power to โfill in the auditory gapsโ.

So, what should you do to help with listening fatigue? ๐คทโโ๏ธ If you have a hearing loss, wearing appropriately fit hearing aids can help you hear the sounds that your missing/ strain to hear, reducing the mental load on your brain.๐ฆป๐

Also, taking a break from a noisy environment can help reduce the effects of listening fatigue! Go for a nature walk ๐ถ, meditate in a quiet area for a few minutes (โBox Breathingโ meditation is what I recommend) ๐งโโ๏ธ, or read a book/ article of interest ๐.

Reducing background noise (turn of the TV/ radio, close your door) can also help reduce listening fatigue ๐.

And finally, taking a 20 minute nap to give your brain and ears a rest is an excellent solution to decreasing listening fatigue ๐ด.
