I’ve been reflecting on some recent experiences with patients, and how they compare to my own in the past. For me, that included navigating dysbiosis, pcos, and what may have been endometriosis all along.

If you’ve ever felt unheard, rushed, or written off, you’re not too much. You just need care that’s willing and able to put in the work.

Supporting your gut can influence estrogen and progesterone balance, while healthy hormone levels support gut integrity.

Taking both into account allows for more comprehensive, effective care.

This is the unglamorous work that actually works. Hormone health ≠ doing more, it’s focusing on achieving the basics first.

• Adequate calorie intake, fibre (!!!!), + protein
• Stable blood sugar
• Sleep quality + quantity
• Nervous system regulation
• ANY physical activity
• Limiting alcohol

Supplements and hacks can be great, but we need to lay a good foundation first 🤝

Why your gut isn’t healing- even if you’re doing all the ‘right’ things. ⬇️

1️⃣ Subclinical infections or microbial imbalances 🦠🔬
Bacterial overgrowth, yeast overgrowth, or pathogenic microbes can disrupt digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune function. These imbalances may prevent probiotics or dietary changes from working effectively until resolved.

2️⃣ Lifestyle stressors and nutrient deficiencies 🧠💤🥗
High stress levels can alter gut microbiome balance. Deficiencies in key nutrients like iron, zinc, or B-vitamins can impair gut repair and make symptoms persist. Sleep, diet, and toxin exposure (think 🍷🍺🚬) also play a major role.

3️⃣ Food triggers and incomplete interventions 🍞🥛
Unrecognized food intolerances or sensitivities can maintain inflammation and digestive symptoms. Often, a comprehensive approach is needed- including diet, stress management, gut healing support, and targeted testing to achieve lasting results.

✨ Bonus ✨Probiotics can help support ‘good’ bacteria in your gut, but the right strain and dose are key, and lasting improvements usually require broader changes to your diet, lifestyle, and gut environment.

I grew up believing period pain was “just part of being a woman.” From my very first cycle, I was told: “Everyone has cramps, take an Advil and you’ll be fine.”

Except I wasn’t fine, I had severe dysmenorrhea. No one talked about what might be causing it or what I could test, change, or support to actually help my body.

The truth I wish I learned sooner?
Period pain may be common, but it is not normal. Your body is communicating, and there are evidence-informed ways to understand and treat the root cause.⁣

If period pain has been dismissed or minimized in your life, this is your reminder that you deserve answers, and not just Advil. 💕
