🧡 Orange Shirt Day – Truth and Reconciliation Day 🧡
On September 30, the FNQLHSSC unveiled a beautiful quilt — and we are so proud to have contributed by creating one of its squares! ✨
🌳 Our square represents:
🌱 Roots = our ancestors, our foundation
🌿 Branches = the generations, the future
🪵 Wood = memory
Together, they symbolize life — and just like the seasons, the tree always blossoms again. 🌸
🙏 A heartfelt thank you to the Commission for this meaningful and beautiful quilt.

« Orange Shirt Day: A Living Story of Strength and Resilience
To celebrate Orange Shirt Day on September 30, the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC) will be featuring various initiatives. Once again this year, the tools are inspired by a work of art by Atikamekw artist Eruoma Awashish.
Let’s come together to raise awareness among future generations about the importance of this day and show our support for our parents, grandparents, and all those who attended residential schools.
Collaborative quilt
A collaborative quilt was created this year with the invaluable participation of elders from 14 communities in Quebec: Nutashkuan, Kitigan Zibi, Pikogan, Wendake, Mashteuiatsh, Kebaowek, Ekuanitsh*t, Matimekush–Lac-John, Essipit, Manawan, Winneway, Kahnawà:ke, Timiskaming and Listuguj. The piece illustrates what Orange Shirt Day means to them, in addition to representing their stories and resilience. To ensure this creation is enjoyed by as many people as possible, reproductions of the original quilt will be sent to all communities in Quebec.
