Here we are 38 years after the doors had first opened for Lady Slipper Villa sometime in 1986 by Doris Buchanan and her husband and a lot of changes have been made since then. It has changed hands twice and now here we are in 2024 and we are closing our doors forever.
This is a bittersweet day; it is filled with mixed emotions. I am happy for all the residents to be moving into the newly built and upgraded building that they all have been oh so excited to move to since hearing about it. At the same time, I am saddened to see them go as I will miss all of them and the team of staff that I have grown to know and care for over the time I have been with them here at Lady Slipper Villa.
There is so much that I want to write about my time here, and I want to thank so many people. I will make this as brief as I can. First, Karen Cook, you were the first person I met here and a mentor in the end. You retired a year ago and now I see why lol. You did a lot in your 35 years here and I thank your for hiring me onto the Lady Slipper Villa family 😊
Thank you to the entire team for accepting me when I moved up into the Director of Care/Administrator position and not giving me such a tough time LOL
Jason Lee, Verna Nutbrown, and the other management and many people that I have crossed paths with that have imparted wisdom upon me during my journey in this role as well, I thank you and I will carry everything with me on my future endeavours.
To all the residents and families who have been here while I have been here, I thank you for trusting us with your loved one, we have enjoyed having you and your loved one with us and we wish you and them a loving and healthy caring journey at the Willows.
Emma, Cindy, Mark our Kitchen staff thank you for your hard work and dedication in the kitchen and listening to the grumbles when someone did not like what was made LOL
Karen your endless cleaning up of well everything, you were always moving with that cart, Thank you!
Toni, how do I thank you for the entertainment you provided! You are one of a kind! The parties always wowed the residents you threw and the ideas you produced for all the special occasions! Thank you!
Rose M, and Trudy my day shift supervisors how could I do it without you two?? I could not let us just put it that way!! You kept us running day to day and ensuring things got done for the residents.
Rose S. and Fran, my day floor staff, you care for the residents up close and personal and that is a job that deserves more recognition than it gets I can tell you that.
Alex how do I thank you for being our casual gal and filling in wherever and whenever I needed you thank you 😊
My night shift girls: Mary-Beth, Veronica, Connie, and Myrna the Villa depended on you to keep us going overnight, that is one of the hardest shifts to do. To stay away all night long while others sleep and take on the responsibility of the entire home is something huge. I thank you for all that you have done ❤
In closing I am going to say that there is not one person that I am definitely not going to miss as I will miss you all. I wish you all the best of luck and health in all you do. Good-bye Lady Slipper Villa 1986-2024
