How I lost 25 pounds in 10 weeks…
There are so many blogs, adds or posts starting with this phrase, tapping into our deepest wishes, promising wonders and not keeping one bit.
Even as a professionally trained registered holistic nutritionist I fought my very own health battles, often feeling miserable having to continuously work on my weight and fight severe sleep issues.
I grew up dancing ballet, teaching Aerobic classes as a student and working for years as a flight attendant, walking thousands of steps over the Atlantic…I never ever would have thought I would struggle with my weight at any stage of my life.
Then my career as a cabin crew manager took off and I developed into a stressed-out manager, sitting for most hours of the day, only to come home for a pizza and a glass of red wine. As I knew this can’t go on forever or I am doomed to death, I developed a strong interest in health topics. I started to run every morning at 5 to keep my weight in check. Then menopause hit and despite all efforts I experienced a considerable weight gain.
When my husband retired, we decided to move to Canada, closer to his grown-up kids, which gave me the priceless opportunity to further pursue my interest in health and to become a Registered Holistic Nutritionist at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition.
With the help of my nutritional knowledge, I managed to lose 20 pounds over the last 10 years. Yet I was still not close to how much I weighed or felt when I was 40. Was it too much to ask? So, I got used to clothes which covered up my extra pounds, dreaming of those beautiful dresses I thought I would never wear again.
What if I tell you, I did it, I lost 25 pounds over 10 weeks, feeling better than ever before. How did that happen?
Everything changed when I dug deeper into the science of genetics and epigenetics. I have learned that although we cannot change our genetic costume, we can greatly influence if unfavorable genes are activated. A genetic predisposition, for instance responsible for producing a lot of the hunger hormone Ghrelin, could be silenced and the one responsible for producing our satiety hormone Leptin, could be activated. Everything started to make sense.
Consequently, I took some genetic testing myself and decided to go on that transformational journey with the support of Dr. Penny Kendall-Reed, ND, a trailblazer and distinguished expert in Genetics. The results were most stunning. It became clear to me that besides my nutritional knowledge a new promising and long-lasting way to return to sound health and well-being had opened up for me.
Ever since I have wanted to share this experience with my clients and to help them to understand why they gain weight and put them back in the driver seat of their health, whatever their issues may be.
Meanwhile I completed the Integrative Genomics Intensive course with the Ontario Association of Naturopaths and are delighted to work with Dr. Penny Kendall-Reed as my mentor.
