Happy National Nursing Week to all the wonderful people who dedicate their lives caring for others.

18 years ago, the choice to become a Registered Nurse was a no brainer. It was a profession that met all my passions and needs: health and wellness, caring for others, challenge, job security, respect, making the world a better place.

My profession led the path to my husband and our family. *Insert Grey’s Anatomy jokes*

Mostly my work gave me the gift of respect for:

🩺 My body and my health
🩺 My time on this earth
🩺 My time with my loved ones
🩺 The value of balance and to not miss special moments
🩺 And to not put off things (e.g. trips) that are important

During this nursing week, let a nurse know how much they’re appreciated.

ACE Planning Company would not exist today if it were not for many of the strong women who taught me along the way.

⏺️ My Mom, my Grandmothers and my Godmother who shaped and provided for me to become who I am today.

⏺️ My Mother in law and sister in law who are beautiful people and helped raise a man who steadfastly supports my goals and adores his children.

⏺️ My best friend Sonya (despite the fact we keep moving away from each other, we still pick up where we leave off).

⏺️ University professors

⏺️ Clinical nursing instructors

⏺️ My amazing ICU preceptors - Joni, Julia and Heather

⏺️ Business mentors

⏺️ Fellow female entrepreneurs and partners

⏺️ And even the culture of nursing who bullied, belittled and tried to blow out my candle to make theirs shine brighter… thank you for making me a better person with a stronger voice to stand up for myself and others.

Thank you for all your love, lessons and support 👯‍♀️

On today’s International Women’s Day, I am hopeful for a future where women have:

⏺️ Caregivers who listen to them
⏺️ A village that supports them without judgment
⏺️ Partners that love and care for them through hard times
⏺️ Employers who support their needs
⏺️ Proactive health care for a better quality of life
⏺️ Awareness of the intersectionality of inequitability for women of colour and a movement to change this
⏺️ A government that respects the health care decisions between a women and her Doctor

With the caliber of women in today’s society driving social change, I am confident we will get there.

Hello! I’m so glad you have found ACE Planning Company.

Health care planning is a new conversation I am proud to be a part of.

We plan what we’re going to eat for dinner.

We plan our family vacations.

We plan parties and get togethers.

We plan what we’re going to wear to work tomorrow.

We plan for retirement.

We plan out our finances.

But we don’t plan for the most important phase of life which is medical emergencies and health frailty. Have you ever heard the expression, “your lack of planning should not make for my emergency?”

So much of what I saw in ICU was reactive care and putting out fires. My goal is to help adult children and seniors prepare themselves and feel ready to make decisions with essential and difficult conversations that will bring so much peace of mind.
