🌟 Our September SuperNova: Andrew Butler 🌟 

We want to give a big shout out to one of our long time members Andrew for getting this recognition. 

He has been a loyal and dedicated member working out with us at 6am MWF for 9 years!

But the big news about Andrew is he just crushed his very first triathlon!

Doing a ‘tri’ has been on his list for years…

But there was a voice in his head (that exists in all of us) that says ‘don’t do hard things’...

He overcame that inner battle and was able to work on that open water swim that was the real scary thing he resisted.

We want to recognize Andrew for this massive accomplishment…

Word is that now he wants to improve his race time by doing it again next year.

Think thyroid is the reason for sluggish metabolism, fat gain, and low energy?

Often it’s not. Tests usually show the thyroid is fine.

The real culprits are usually:

1. Cortisol – stress hormone; too high

2. Insulin – spiked by processed carbs, snacking, low activity.

3. Growth Hormone – key for fat loss and recovery; killed by late nights and poor sleep.

When these are off, metabolism slows, energy tanks, and fat goes up.

And you can fix these hormones without labs or therapies!

Here’s how to start rebalancing them now:

After a major knee replacement late last year, Tanya became ‘fiercely committed’ to getting her knee working again AND to get back on the golf course by summer 2025.

But recovery took an unexpected turn when she faced another surgery for a pacemaker, making rehab even more challenging.

Instead of slowing down, Tanya stayed consistent - showing up for physio, rebuilding her strength step by step (literally), and working closely with her Nova Coaches to regain her mobility.

Most people focus on calories, carbs, or workouts when trying to get lean or feel better — but don’t even think about their digestion.

The 80/20 Rule is a popular framework for building better habits - 80% clean eating, 20% indulgence (pizza, alcohol, pastries etc.)

✅ Great for beginners
✅ Creates structure
✅ Offers flexibility
✅ Delivers early wins

But the 80/20 Rule works only up to a point.

That’s when the Law of Diminishing Returns kicks in:

What worked at the start won’t work forever.

As you get closer to your goals, you have to get sharper with your habits.

“Everything in moderation” is a common slogan for those who follow the 80/20 rule.

But if you’ve plateaued… 

If your results have stalled…

Then 80/20 won’t take you any further.

I’ve coached people for 20+ years and seen the 80/20 rule help everyone until it doesn’t.

At that point you can’t have your version of “everything in moderation” and results.

Most treat 80/20 like this:

5-6 days “clean,” and 1-2 “cheat” days on the weekend.

Or if a week has 21 meals then 4 meals will be ‘off plan’.

It’s a start for those who have no healthy eating plan - but if you want more, it’s time to raise the bar.

How we came up with this 80/20 rule and “everything in moderation” within nutrition is a bit of a phenomenon because we don’t preach this in any other area of life…

Business - do you strive to hit 80% of your goals?

Parenting - do you tell your kids that 80% grades are good enough?

Even video games - do you stop at 80% completion?

So why settle for it in your health?

80/20 is a solid start.

But it’s not the finish line.

If you’ve been walking 10,000 steps a day for years…

That might be enough to maintain where you are.

But it’s probably not enough to take you to the next level.

That’s the law of diminishing returns:

The closer you get to your goals, the more you have to push to keep progressing.

👉 If you’re at 4,000 steps now, shoot for 8,000.

👉 If you’ve been at 10,000 forever, aim for 12,000 or 15,000.

It’s not about chasing some magic number.

It’s about raising your standards above your current baseline.

Progress only happens in the presence of challenge.

Otherwise, it’s just maintenance.

Maintenance only requires you to keep doing the same thing.

But progressions require challenge.
