According to Obesity Canada, there could be more people who suffer from obesity (8+ million) than diabetes (3m), heart disease (2.4m), or cancer (2m) combined. However, most Canadians with obesity are lacking the full support of our healthcare systems, private or public drug plans, or the supports offered to other people with chronic illnesses. In addition, the Canadian and American Medical Associations and the World Health Organization consider obesity to be a chronic disease that requires healthcare systems to prevent and treat it like other chronic conditions.

This year Take Action on World Obesity Day and help raise awareness by submitting a letter to your local representatives via Obesity Canada's newest program. By submitting your email and postal code on their sign up form, which can be found in our bio, you can help to "Add Your Voice" to the growing number of people supporting obesity awareness.

Rare Disease Day is a global initiative that is working towards equal opportunities for people living with a rare disease including social liberties, healthcare, and access to diagnosis and therapies. This is important since about 5% of the world's population, or 300 million people across the world today, have a rare disease.

Set up by EURORDIS and 65+ national alliance patient organization partners in 2008, this initiative has built an international rare disease community that focuses on diversity of both its members and its support for the many types of rare diseases. Of the 6000+ rare diseases that have been identified, 72% of them are genetic and 70% often start in childhood.
