It is with deep gratitude and affection that we remember a remarkable leader whose influence helped shape the Oakville Hospital Foundation and the community it serves.
From 1999 to 2009, Allen Wightman served as CEO of the Oakville Hospital Foundation. Under his leadership, the campaign for the first MRI at OTMH—then the largest fundraising goal Oakville had ever undertaken—became a reality. His vision extended far beyond a single achievement; he worked tirelessly to build the capacity, confidence, and momentum that would prepare the team for the new hospital campaign that followed.
He led not from above, but from beside. His example was one of humility and wholehearted commitment. Whether emptying the dishwasher, stuffing envelopes, or folding gala napkins with the precision of a seasoned artisan, he showed that every task mattered when done in service of a shared mission. As a spokesperson, he brought clarity, conviction, and a quiet charisma that inspired trust and generosity throughout the community.
Yet his most enduring legacy lives in the people he mentored. He carried an unwavering belief in his team—seeing potential before others saw it in themselves. His encouragement was steady, his humour dry and perfectly timed, and his support unfailing. He was a cheerleader, a guide, and a source of confidence for those fortunate enough to work alongside him.
As we say goodbye, we honour him with the phrase lovingly bestowed upon him, one he cherished, and one that now feels like a gentle closing of the day on a life beautifully lived: Bonne Soirée Blanc Homme.
