Full-Mouth Rehabilitation: Provisional Restorations
Here’s a look at the provisional restorations from a recent Full-Mouth Rehabilitation case I prepared.
🔹 Clinical Challenges:
This patient presented with severe erosion, attrition, a deep overbite, and significant loss of vertical dimension, with the lower incisors worn almost to the gum line.
🔹 Treatment Plan:
✔️ I referred the patient to Dr. Naheed Mohamed, a periodontist, for crown lengthening to allow us to preserve the natural teeth without the need for endodontics or dental implants.
✔️ A diagnostic wax-up was created by master ceramist Harald Heindl, which guided the new vertical dimension for both the direct composite resin onlays and the provisional restorations.
✔️ Opened the vertical dimension using direct composite resin onlays on the upper molars and one bicuspid.
✔️ Provisional restorations were placed in harmony with the new vertical dimension, allowing us to evaluate function and esthetics before final restorations.
💡 Educational Insight for Dentists:
This case was featured in the December 2024 Occlusion Design webinar, where I walked members through the step-by-step fabrication of direct composite resin onlays with clinical videos to enhance the learning experience. Cases like this are exactly what I share in our monthly Occlusion Design webinars, providing detailed insights into advanced restorative techniques.
