The empty nest phase of life is a significant transition, often accompanied by a mix of emotions. It’s a moment for introspection, self-discovery, and growth.

In our sessions, we approach the empty nest experience through an existential lens. We believe this phase offers a unique opportunity to explore the profound questions of purpose, identity, and the meaning you seek at this juncture.

Together, we create a compassionate and supportive space to process the various emotions that may arise during this transition. Our aim is to help you find new sources of fulfillment and embark on a meaningful exploration of your life’s next chapter.

Although your nest may be empty, your life is brimming with possibilities. We are here to provide insight and compassion as you navigate this transformation.

Loss is an inevitable part of life, yet nothing truly prepares us for the depth of grief that follows. Grief is more than just sadness—it is the profound and often disorienting experience of learning to live in the absence of someone we love. Though universal, grief is deeply personal, reshaping our sense of self, our relationships, and our understanding of the world.

In a society that often misunderstands grief—pushing us to “move on” long before we’re ready—it can feel isolating to navigate such a tender, painful process. Grief therapy offers a space to sit with your emotions without judgment, to honour the life and love that still matter, and to explore how meaning can emerge from loss.

Over time, grief does not disappear, but life expands around it, making room for both sorrow and joy to coexist.

At Your Road Forward, we are honoured to walk with you, offering support as you navigate the uncertainties of loss and discover what healing means for you.

The perinatal period — before, during, and after pregnancy — can bring significant emotional, physical, and mental health challenges. Experiences may include reproductive trauma such as infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, or traumatic birth, as well as the adjustments of postpartum life.

These seasons often hold both joy and heartbreak, stirring complex emotions and questions about identity, meaning, and resilience. Therapy offers space to process these experiences, explore personal meaning, and find a steadier path through times of change.

Parenthood brings a profound transformation, sometimes referred to as matrescence — the shift in identity that comes with stepping into a new role. This transition can hold moments of love, connection, and joy alongside feelings of overwhelm, uncertainty, and loss of self.

Changes in relationships, routines, and sense of identity often surface, carrying both growth and grief as old roles fade and new ones emerge. Therapy offers space to explore these experiences, integrate the changes, and move forward in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.

Life Transitions

At Janice Mae Therapy you will find a safe place to discuss your current life transition. Life transitions are impossible to avoid altogether, however, you do not have to face these difficult moments alone. A life transition may be a deliberate choice: like beginning a new career, heading to University, getting married, or even ending a marriage. We may experience life transitions we do not choose such as the death of a loved one, unwanted divorce, or job loss. Empty nest or caring for elderly parents are natural life transitions that often represent a change in roles and identity. Life transitions may encompass dreams that never materialize like becoming a parent or finding a loving life partner. I look forward to supporting you through whatever life transition you are currently facing.
