Diastasis recti Andominis is a common condition in pregnant and postpartum people. It occurs when the re**us abdominis muscles separate during pregnancy from being stretched.
The increased gap between the right and left re**us abdominal muscles is created by the stretching of the linea alba, a connective collagen sheath created by the aponeurosis insertions of transverse abdominus, internal and external oblique.
If the separation persists months after your delivery it can cause recurrent lowback or mid back pain .You might not be able to activate your abdominal muscles while trying to do lifting or carrying which could result in low back injury.
Pelvic floor Physiotherapists are trained to diagnose and treat DRA and help you train to engage your core effectively. If you are planning to return to your workout routine postpartum it's important thay you have a check with Pelvicfloor Physiotherapist to avoid possible injuries .
