Hi, I’m Colleen Lowe, the Founder of Enfleurage Organics. Enfleurage is an ancient method of extracting essential oils.
No, we are not an essential oil supplier, however, we use them in many of our products.
I am a recovering Agoraphobic - I used to have SEVERE anxiety, depression and PANIC attacks. One brave day I wandered into a small mall and there was a kiosk health shop that sold books. A book caught my eye, it was about ANXIETY disorder and as I flipped through it I saw that it recommended the essential oil YlangYlang. I bought the book and the oil and that was the beginning of a new life for me.
To say I was amazed at how effective the YlangYlang was at helping me is an understatement. At the time I was employed as a Project Manager and my job was to attend meetings at large institutions, such as a full service hospital, and be the person who explained our company’s Just In Time program.
As many of you know, public speaking is not easy for a lot of us. What I learned to do was rub the oil, just a couple of drops, into my long hair. Then when I felt my anxiety rising I would shake my head, nothing unusual that a lot of women with long hair would do but what I was doing was activating the aroma. You see, at home I would meditate while sniffing the oil. This trained my brain to relax with the scent. The chemicals in YlangYlang are very relaxing.
It wasn’t long before I was seeking more knowledge about essential oils. The first school, a private school, didn’t cut it. A fellow student told me he’d discovered that Sheridan College was offering a new Diploma Program in Essential Oils. We both signed up and it was during my years of part-time attendance that I became a body care developer and one of the first to graduate.
We had a term project to develop a carrier of essential oils and it couldn’t be a massage oil. Me, on my new computer (remember this is back in the 90’s), learned how to do searches and I sought out companies that sold essential oils. Lo and behold, many of these companies sold bars of soap!
So how does one make a bar of soap. More research and voila! My first bar of soap was a Lavender Olive Oil soap. Next semester, same challenge. Hmmmm, now what do I make. Ah hah! I made a cold chasing bath bomb.
It wasn’t long after that, that I was approached by our head instructor who offered me an opportunity to make soaps for a spa she supplied. And as the saying goes ... the rest is history. Well almost.
It was back in 2003 that I had to undergo cancer surgery. Yup, right when SARS was raging. It took me 2 years to recover and during that time I realized I was alive for a very specific reason. To produce products that help YOU stay healthy and that clean up this world for Mother Nature
We've got you covered ... hair, face, shaving, body, baby, even dog soaps ! As well as creams, some made using shea butter and argan oil, sprays that incorporate essential oils, some sprays match up to your horoscope, aluminum free deodorants, lip balms, and more on the way.
By the way, I know Enfleurage is a tough word for many to remember but a lot of you do remember that I makesoap and I do it in Canada So check out my site makesoap dot ca (got it? wink wink)
