What causes melasma? ☀️

Melasma is a common type of pigmentation that shows up as darker patches on the skin and it’s triggered by more than just the sun.

• Sun exposure (UV rays) – the #1 cause, even a little daily exposure adds up

• Hormones – pregnancy, birth control, or hormonal changes can trigger it

• Genetics – if it runs in your family, you’re more prone

• Heat – hot weather, saunas, even steam can worsen it

• Skin irritation – harsh products or over exfoliating can make it worse

• Certain medications – some increase sensitivity to light

Melasma sits deeper in the skin, which is why it can be stubborn and come back if not managed properly.

Daily SPF is non negotiable and the right treatments can help keep it under control.
