We’re helping patients get home sooner - and safely.

Halton Healthcare is proud to announce the continued growth and support of Halton@Home, a program that helps patients continue their recovery at home. With personalized care from nurses, respiratory therapists, rehabilitation professionals, and personal support workers, patients regain strength and independence — all in the comfort of their own home.

This program is making a real difference for patients, families, and our health system.

In honour of International Women’s Day, we are shining a light on the extraordinary women who motivate and uplift our community at Halton Healthcare.

Today, Adrienne, Chief Communications Officer, is recognizing her cousin, Shaunna Burke.

Shaunna has already pushed herself to incredible heights on Mount Everest. She has attempted to summit twice but needed to turn around after reaching base camp the first time. She reached the summit on her second attempt and last year ran a marathon at Base Camp while living with metastatic breast cancer. This year, she is planning her third attempt to reach the summit.

Her determination to live fully and discover is truly awe-inspiring. After completing her marathon, she also finished an intensive silent meditation retreat and now practices one
hour of seated meditation daily.

Adrienne shares that she has always admired her cousin Shaunna, but her cancer journey has deepened that pride even more. Shaunna has chosen to live and navigate treatment
her way, building care teams that respect her goals and individuality. Now, as she works on a book, Dying to Live: A Memoir of Climbing Higher than Ever. Her journey stands as a
powerful reminder of why patient-centred care truly matters.

Today, we celebrate Shaunna and the women who show us what courage, resilience and purpose look like.

This International Women’s Day, we honour women like Laura, Healthy Workplace Advisor at Halton Healthcare, and her late mom, Maureen.

Growing up, Maureen worked multiple jobs to make sure her family had everything they needed. In her late 40s, she finally chose to follow her own dream, graduating with honours in Horticulture from the University of Guelph and embracing her love of plants.

Not long after, she was diagnosed with cancer. She fought — and won. Ten years later, when the cancer returned and had metastasized, doctors told her to get her affairs in order. But she kept fighting, proving them wrong time and again.

Holding hands and listening to The Beatles in her final moments, she left behind a legacy of strength, resilience and love.

“She taught us how to love, how to fight for what matters, and that it is never too late to follow your dreams.”

This International Women’s Day, we are proud to celebrate the incredible women who inspire our teams every day at Halton Healthcare.

Today, Nicole, Administrative Assistant, Health Safety Wellness & Human Resources, is recognizing her mom, Lucy, a valued member of our Environmental Services team.

At just 16, Lucy immigrated to Canada from the Azores Islands of Portugal on her own. She worked as a live-in nanny while attending night school to learn English, determined to build a better future. For the past 10 years, Lucy has been a dedicated member of Halton Healthcare. She is known for her strong work ethic, kindness and positivity.

“When people find out Lucy in EVS is my mom, they always say, ‘Your mom is the best.’ It makes me so proud because it is 100% true.”

Today, we celebrate Nicole and Lucy and all the remarkable women across Halton Healthcare who inspire us every day.

This Recreational Therapy Month, Nikki is bringing colour, creativity, and calm to patient care through flower arranging, a meaningful activity that supports relaxation, mindfulness, and self-expression. 💐

Beyond its beauty, flower arranging helps maintain dexterity and fine motor skills in the hands, making it a gentle and engaging therapeutic exercise. It's a simple yet powerful way to brighten a resident’s space, creating an environment that feels more personal and uplifting.

For many, arranging flowers sparks joyful memories of time spent gardening or creating bouquets with parents and loved ones, offering opportunities to reminisce and share stories. These moments of connection often bring smiles, comfort, and a sense of familiarity. It is about more than the activity. It is about the care, connection, and lasting impact behind it.

Meet Banjo, our Strategic Advisor for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Reconciliation (EDIA-R) at Halton Healthcare. He has been instrumental in launching the first EDIA-R plan at Halton region which includes Employee Resource Groups (ERG's) which will help to create an environment where staff, feel supported and able to grow without the weight of bias.

For Banjo, this work is about people and human connection, supporting others through challenging moments, creating space for meaningful dialogue, and helping teams navigate complex issues thoughtfully.

Growing up in a diverse community shaped Banjo’s deep commitment to ensuring everyone feels heard, valued, and understood.

Through developing inclusive leaders, addressing systemic barriers, and mentoring newcomers to Canada, Banjo is helping build a culture where belonging strengthens teams and enables excellence in patient care.

Banjo reminds us, "when we create space for one community to be fully seen, we strengthen the foundation for all to belong”.

Tyrique is a Security Supervisor at Halton Healthcare, and Pauline is a Registered Nurse in the Milton District Hospital Emergency Department. 💙

Their story began back in 2019, when Tyrique first noticed Pauline. He was a security guard, and she worked in the Emergency Department. Hoping to strike up a conversation, he jokingly pretended to be a Pokémon fan (knowing she loved it)… and it worked!

Fast forward to 2026, and they’re now married and have welcomed their first child.

Wishing Tyrique and Pauline, and everyone a very happy Valentine’s Day!❤️💌
