Dr. Amy Tung, ND

Dr. Amy Tung, ND I help high achieving women optimize their health, manage the hormone changes of perimenopause and menopause.

Licensed ND in Ontario working with women for two decades. I am a board-certified Naturopathic Doctor, writer and speaker, and for almost two decades, I have been helping patients achieve optimal health and wellness through hormonal balance. I have a special interest and passion in hormone health, I work daily with women who experience hormonal concerns. I am certified in hormone replacement (HRT) also known as "bio-identical hormone replacement therapy" (BHRT), and have done further training to be able to prescribe and use these tools. I do regularly use these and other naturopathic tools to heal and educate and help balance hormones for my patients. I currently sit on the board of the Endocrinology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (EndoANP) and have been a board member for four years. The EndoANP supports Naturopathic Doctors in North America who have a special interest in hormone health. I have advanced my knowledge in supportive hormone care and have received the Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Endocrinology designation (based on the standard for the American Board of Naturopathic Endocrinology, which is the certification branch of the Endocrinology Association of Naturopathic Physicians). As a graduate of the four-year program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto I am registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, and hold an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo. My approach to health and wellness involves looking at the physical, emotional and mental aspects of a person’s health. As a result of this holistic approach, I have always practiced in integrative medical clinics alongside medical doctors and a team of other health care professionals. I am a wife and busy mom of three young children, and am constantly looking to find balance and harmony in all areas of life. When I’m not with patients, you can find me doing yoga, making healthy recipes or exploring new hiking trails with my family. Obesity affects more than appearance—it drives inflammation throughout the body. This chronic inflammation damages blood vessels and increases risk for:
✔️ Heart disease
✔️ Stroke
✔️ High blood pressure

Midlife women face rising cardiovascular risk as estrogen declines, making lifestyle choices more important than ever.

If you’re strength training, you need the right fuel.

✔️ Protein – Aim for at least 1.2–1.6 g per kg of body weight daily to support muscle repair and growth.
✔️ Creatine – One of the most researched supplements, creatine helps maintain strength, energy, and even supports brain health in midlife women.

Pairing exercise with these nutrition strategies is key for protecting muscle as hormones shift.

Obesity is commonly defined using BMI, but BMI doesn’t tell the whole story—especially for women in midlife. Here’s why:
✔️ BMI can’t distinguish between muscle and fat
✔️ Visceral fat (belly fat) increases health risks more than subcutaneous fat
✔️ Menopause shifts fat storage to the midsection

A better measure? Waist circumference, body composition, and overall metabolic health.

ED vs. Low Libido—What’s the Difference?

They often get grouped together, but erectile dysfunction (ED) and low libido are not the same, and they require different approaches.

✔️ ED = Desire is there, but the body doesn’t cooperate
✔️ Low Libido = There’s little or no interest in s*x to begin with

Each can be influenced by hormones, cardiovascular health, stress, or medications, but the underlying causes and treatments differ.

If you’re not sure what’s going on, start by tracking symptoms and having an open conversation with your provider. Getting clarity is the first step to getting support.
