Dr. Amy Tung, ND I help high achieving women optimize their health, manage the hormone changes of perimenopause and menopause.

Licensed ND in Ontario working with women for two decades. I am a board-certified Naturopathic Doctor, writer and speaker, and for almost two decades, I have been helping patients achieve optimal health and wellness through hormonal balance. I have a special interest and passion in hormone health, I work daily with women who experience hormonal concerns. I am certified in hormone replacement (HRT) also known as "bio-identical hormone replacement therapy" (BHRT), and have done further training to be able to prescribe and use these tools. I do regularly use these and other naturopathic tools to heal and educate and help balance hormones for my patients. I currently sit on the board of the Endocrinology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (EndoANP) and have been a board member for four years. The EndoANP supports Naturopathic Doctors in North America who have a special interest in hormone health. I have advanced my knowledge in supportive hormone care and have received the Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Endocrinology designation (based on the standard for the American Board of Naturopathic Endocrinology, which is the certification branch of the Endocrinology Association of Naturopathic Physicians). As a graduate of the four-year program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto I am registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, and hold an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo. My approach to health and wellness involves looking at the physical, emotional and mental aspects of a person’s health. As a result of this holistic approach, I have always practiced in integrative medical clinics alongside medical doctors and a team of other health care professionals. I am a wife and busy mom of three young children, and am constantly looking to find balance and harmony in all areas of life. When I’m not with patients, you can find me doing yoga, making healthy recipes or exploring new hiking trails with my family. Even 20 minutes daily of walking, hiking, dancing, cycling, or doing squats or resistance training - can make a big difference. Small steps = big health benefits.

If you can’t do one full session, break it into smaller “exercise snacks” throughout the day of 5 minute increments b ur aim to move your body as much as possible.

GLP-1 medications + protein = the winning combination.

While GLP-1 medications are powerful for weight loss and for diabetes and cardiovascular prevention- they can also cause muscle loss (as well as fat loss) if you're not strategic.

Here's why protein matters:
My recommendation: Weight (lbs) × 0.7g = daily protein target (this amount may vary depending on your activity level specifically)

For example (take your weight in pounds and multiply it by 0.7), 150 lbs × 0.7 = 105g protein daily

Best protein sources:
✓ Lean chicken & poultry (some red meat go for leanest forms)
✓ Fish & seafood
✓ Eggs & egg whites
✓ Greek yogurt & cottage cheese
✓ Tofu, lentils, beans
✓ Quality protein powders (e.g. whey isolate, beef protein, etc)

GLP-1 medications reduce appetite as welll as “food noise”making it even MORE important to prioritize protein at every meal to prevent sarcopenia (muscle loss).

GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1) are hormones your digestive system naturally produces after eating. It signals your pancreas to release insulin, helping control blood sugar levels.

It also slows stomach emptying and reduces appetite often referred to as “food noise”.

GLP-1 receptor agonist medications mimic this natural hormone, offering benefits that go far beyond the scale:

➡ Improved blood sugar control for insulin resistance, prediabetes and diabetes
➡ Reduced ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) which includes heart disease and stroke risk
➡ Weight management lowering visceral fat especially
➡ Lower cholesterol (triglycerides, LDL-C, ApoB), insulin markers including less risk of MASLD (fatty liver)

For women navigating menopause and metabolic changes, these medications can be game-changers when combined with proper dietary and lifestyle modifications.

Heart health changes after menopause and we need to talk about it. 💔

GLP-1 receptor agonist medications (like Ozempic and Wegovy) are showing promise beyond weight loss they may actually reduce heart attack and stroke risk by 20%.

In a groundbreaking 3-year study of 17,000 patients, those taking semaglutide experienced significant reductions in major cardiac events. This is especially relevant during the menopausal transition when metabolic changes put our hearts at greater risk.

5 MASLD Myths You Need to Stop Believing

✔️ Only alcoholics get liver disease → MASLD is NON-alcohol related.
✔️ Thin people can't have MASLD → Metabolic health matters more than weight
✔️ There's nothing you can do → Lifestyle changes can REVERSE early stages of fatty liver but early intervention is key.
✔️ You'll feel symptoms → MASLD is often SILENT until advanced
✔️ It only affects older adults → Kids and young adults can have it also.

Know the facts. Stay proactive. And always consult a healthcare provider — never self-diagnose.

How to Reduce Liver Fat

Simple habits, big liver wins!

Move your body daily, fill your plate with colourful vegetables & fruits and lean proteins , stay hydrated, and cut back on added sugars to your drinks (no sugar added to your drinks like coffee or tea and avoid any fast food or junk foods). These small shifts make a huge difference for your liver health and overall health.
