I'm a goal setter, but I do love thus concept if you aren't in the head space for that OR they cause you stress instead of motivate.

Friendly reminder that you do not need to ....

Fix yourself.
Optimise yourself.
Become a new personality by midnight.

You are not a software update. 📱

If January brings change, great.
If it brings rest, also great.
If it brings absolutely nothing , that’s allowed too.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop trying to turn living into a productivity exercise.

Anyone else just… letting the year end. 🎭

It's not just you. It's me too ;)

Perimenopause & Horses 🐎 (let’s talk about it)

If you’re an equestrian in your 30s, 40s (or beyond) and things suddenly feel… harder .....you’re not imagining it, and you’re not failing.

Perimenopause can start years before menopause and it doesn’t come in gently.
Hormones fluctuate, not fade. And that affects:

• confidence
• anxiety
• sleep
• energy
• focus
• emotional regulation
• pain perception

Now add horses into the mix.

Riding and horse care rely on balance, strength, coordination, confidence and a regulated nervous system. When hormones wobble, the body and brain can feel unfamiliar. Fear responses can increase. Confidence can dip overnight. Recovery takes longer.

That’s not you “losing your nerve”.
That’s biology.

Common thoughts I hear at the yard: • “Why does this feel harder than it used to?”
• “I should be coping better.”
• “Everyone else seems fine.”
• “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this anymore.”

These aren’t facts.
They’re hormone-influenced thoughts.

What helps (without forcing yourself): ✨ lowering the bar — some days grooming is enough
✨ regulating before riding (breathing, grounding, slowing down)
✨ shorter, kinder sessions
✨ naming it: “this is my hormones talking”
✨ resting without guilt
✨ adapting how you do horses — not quitting them

Perimenopause isn’t:
❌ weakness
❌ failure
❌ lack of bravery

It is:
✔️ a biological transition
✔️ a nervous system shift
✔️ a season that asks for compassion, not comparison

You’re not less of a horse person.
Your horse isn’t disappointed in you.
They don’t need you to push through ..... they need you regulated and kind to yourself.

If this resonates, you’re not alone.
So many women are riding, caring, coaching and holding it together quietly through this.

Let’s talk about it more 🤍
Let’s normalise adapting , not shaming ourselves for being human.

🐴 There are moments in life when the barn is the only place that makes sense… when healing looks nothing like what people think it does.

I love Ilona Maher. Her beauty, trength and vibe are just perfect.

I love this. I didn't ride for 6 years when I bought Tex

Horses don’t wake up with a diary full of performance goals. They’re not standing at the gate thinking, “I hope she schools me in a perfect 20-metre circle today.”

Their world is simpler and more honest. Safety. Predictability. Comfort. Herd. Food. Space. Rhythm. That’s the entire ecosystem of their wellbeing.

When we choose not to ride, we are not depriving them of something vital.
We are actually honouring their natural priorities.

Most days, what your horse wants is for you to show up with steady energy and a soft nervous system. They read the tension in your jaw, the rush in your footsteps, the way you hold your breath when you’re stressed. They know. And they respond.

A horse would rather stand with you quietly than carry you while you’re wound tight.

A horse would rather have a peaceful grooming session than be pushed through 45 minutes of schooling with winter wind rattling the arena boards.

A horse would rather feel you regulate beside them than feel you compensate on their back.

We often forget that riding is a human invention, not a horse requirement. What horses seek is harmony. A safe companion. Someone predictable enough that their bodies can settle next to ours.

When you decide not to ride because you’re tired, or the ground is frozen, or your brain is doing that loud static thing, you’re not failing. You’re speaking the horse’s language.

A regulated human is more valuable to them than a mounted one.

They don’t judge you for walking them to the field instead of tacking up. They don’t measure your worth by hours ridden. They care that you’re safe company. That you don’t bring storms into their space. That when you do ask something of them, it comes from clarity rather than pressure.

Some horses genuinely thrive when riding takes a step back for a little while. Their bodies get a breather. Their minds get space. Their relationship with you gets to be about connection rather than task.

If you’re showing up kindly, you’re doing enough.
If your horse is eating well, moving freely, living in a routine that makes sense to them, you’re doing enough.

And in the quiet seasons, the bond often grows deeper. Because horses remember who sits with them in the stillness.

Rescued Hearts Film: A Special Screening + In-Person Event with the Filmmakers

Join us for a special screening of Rescued Hearts — the powerful new documentary uncovering the miracles, mystery, and science of healing with horses — proudly brought to this community by Equine Connection - The Academy of Equine Assisted Learning.

Inspired by a life-changing moment — when a 7-year-old child diagnosed with autism spoke his first words while interacting with a horse — filmmakers Dana Croschere and Krisanna Sexton set out to explore the profound and often miraculous connection between horses and humans.

Through deeply moving personal stories, expert insights, and heart-based research, the film explores how horses offer a space where healing and transformation can unfold — a space where healing is never one-sided.

This community gathering offers a rare chance to experience a film that’s touching hearts across the world, connect with the filmmakers who brought it to life, and share space with others in your community who live and breathe the horse-human connection.

Rating: Rescued Hearts carries no official rating, but it does contain sensitive themes within the healing journeys shared. These topics may not be suitable for younger viewers.

Type "TICKET" to reserve your seat — space is limited for this powerful experience.

*The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about the healing power of horses and the lives being changed through their connection with people.

Equine Connection-The Academy of Equine Assisted Learning has built its entire business on the welfare of the horse. Every certification course is designed around one clear foundation: understanding the horse, their world, and their language.

By attending this event, you are not only experiencing the power of Rescued Hearts but also supporting the larger mission globally of honouring horses as teachers and sharing their role in true human healing.

How I got here

Thank you for stopping by!

In 2015 I was going through a really tough time. A friend of mine asked me to come to her barn to see her horses. Knowing my passion for them through my life she thought the re-connection might be therapeutic....and she could not have been more right.

That visit lead me to start leasing a mare named Dolly at a private farm in beautiful Wilton, Ontario. This is where my healing started. Many days I would just stand in the field with the horses grazing around me, stroking their manes and crying my heart out. I watched them intently and how they communicated and started to learn so much from them. I gained a sense of peace in my soul that had been missing. Dolly, the mare I leased healed my heart and soul with her kindness, acceptance, quiet strength and grace. My next lease and ultimate purchase was Texas. Texas built me back up. Texas challenged me to the point of questioning if he was too much horse for me and ultimately made me refocus my energy and intent when with him. He demanded my presence and he looked for leadership for safety. I needed to become that person if this was going to work.

Horses have a way of knowing you before you do. They are such sensitive creatures they are able to read our bodies, intentions and minds before we are even conscious about it ourselves. I want to share the transformation I felt with others. I know how much we can learn about ourselves through learning to communicate with horses and I know how much it can improve our lives away from the barn.
