~ Thermography Niagara's Mobile Clinic is Coming Back to Kingston ~

Do you wish there was another way to monitor your breast health? Be proactive instead of reactive? Tired of the squish?

Thermography is a non-invasive, pain-free way to monitor your breast health. NO compressions, NO radiations, NO touching. Great for ALL breast types and ages. Fantastic for breast augmentation. NO doctor referral required.
Thermography is an imaging procedure where infrared images of the body are analyzed.

Thermography is based on the premise that before the growth of abnormal cells is possible, a constant blood supply must be circulated to the growth area. Since pre-cancerous and cancerous masses are highly metabolic tissues, they need an abundant supply of nutrients to maintain their growth and this can increase the surface temperature. Thermography measures the heat generated by the microcirculation of blood during this process.

Thermography IS NOT a substitute for a mammogram!

Thermography is returning to Kingston with scheduled
dates at Natural Route Health.

Upcoming dates for 2025
July 7
November 3

~ MEET OUR TEAM ~

Hi, I’m Dr. Hawar Bakhishi, ND, RN — I help people recover from complex, chronic illnesses and support resilient health through every stage of life.

My practice is rooted in longevity and proactive medicine, guiding clients to intervene early, before symptoms become chronic and harder to reverse.

With training in both conventional and naturopathic medicine, I offer an integrative, evidence-informed approach. I work with individuals who often feel dismissed by traditional systems — those dealing with persistent fatigue, unexplained symptoms, hormone imbalances, or chronic infections like Lyme disease, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), and long COVID.

If you’ve ever been told ā€œeverything looks normalā€ but still feel that something is off, I see you. My mission is to identify the root cause, restore function, and help you feel like yourself again.

My clinical focus includes:
šŸ”¬ Complex Chronic Illness (cardiovascular, infections, inflammation)
🧠 Hormonal & Metabolic Recovery
🌿 Evidence-Based Therapies for Longevity
šŸŒ Sustainable Healthy Living

Outside of clinic life, I love painting, singing, and expressing creativity through art. I also play volleyball and am a member of the Kingston Sport & Social Club — see you on the court!

~ Feeling stuck in old patterns or past trauma? ~

Brainspotting therapy (BSP) was developed in 2003 by Dr David Grand, an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) Psychologist. It is an extremely effective mind-body therapy that is used for anxiety, depression, trauma and high performing athletes and actors. BSP uses relevant eye positions, somatic awareness, focused mindfulness and the therapist’s attunement to process and release the stored negative experiences and traumas which underlie a wide range of emotional and physical problems.

It is a brain-body based treatment which integrates well with other types of therapies. Scientists suggest that Brainspotting targets the right hemisphere, the brain stem, and the limbic system. It appears to bypass your brain’s ā€œlogicā€ sections and tap directly into the emotional ones. That’s the power of this incredible technique; it allows you to access your brain’s raw emotions about the trauma, unconsciously and consciously, instead of the thought the logical parts of your brain have formed around it. Brainspotting allows your brain’s own ability to heal itself to access the troubling event where it is held in this deeper part of your brain and rewire it so all the unpleasant thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the troubling event resolve completely.

Brainspotting simplifies all of that chaos and trauma. It allows you to file, label more easily organize all of the difficult and challenging events in your life, so the hard drive of your mind runs smoothly, seamlessly, and glitch-free.

If you are interested in Brainspotting or EMDR, book a consultation with our registered psychotherapist, Cathy Lumsden.

~ Is Acupuncture safe in Pregnancy? ~

A question our Acupuncturist Laura is often asked is, ā€œIs Acupuncture safe during pregnancy?ā€

It’s a great question, and the general answer is YES! Not only is Acupuncture safe but it is also beneficial during pregnancy. However, there are always exceptions. Let’s break it down:

šŸ¤°āœ… In the first trimester, we use Acupuncture to help decrease chances of miscarriage, to help reduce morning sickness / nausea, to decrease stress & anxiety (it’s often an anxious time as we are eager to get to the second trimester mark), and to increase energy.

šŸ¤°āœ… In the second trimester, Acupuncture is usually not needed as much. But it’s still great for any discomfort that arises - sleep issues, constipation, stress.

šŸ¤°āœ… In the third trimester, we use it for aches and pains, breech baby (if applicable) and to help with labour prep and labour induction to set you up for a smooth and positive birth experience.

šŸ¤°āŒ There are always points that Acupuncturists avoid during pregnancy - so it’s important to tell your Acupuncturist if you are pregnant or if there is a chance you may be pregnant so your Acupuncturist knows to avoid this set of points.

šŸ¤°āŒ If you have any specific medical conditions or pregnancy complications, Acupuncture may be contraindicated - so please speak to your medical providers and Acupuncturist first before booking a session.

Our Acupuncturist Laura Burns would love to support you on your journey, and is always available for a free meet and greet to discuss whether & when Acupuncture might be right for you!

~ Our Families Are Expanding! ~

It’s with huge excitement and happy hearts that we announce the pregnancy of two of our team members, Dr. Reecha Panchal, ND & Angie Vanderwees. Dr. Reecha & her husband Khush are expecting their first child in May while Angie & her partner Adam are expecting their first child together and adding to their blended family this month. Dr. Reecha will be taking maternity leave from the beginning of May until mid September with a slow return to her schedule. During this time, Dr. Ramnique Ubhi, ND is covering her practice. Angie will be taking her maternity leave until spring of next year and current clients have been referred. We wish both of them beautiful births and mindful moments as they settle into family life.

~ VISUALIZATION DURING SOUND BATHS ~

If you've experienced a Sound Bath with Miriam, you’ve likely heard her mention how each session is unique, shaped by the individual practitioner and their guiding style. One element she often weaves into the experience is the gentle invitation to explore visualization.

After many years of meditation, Miriam has found great comfort in visualization when she had her first (and last) concussions. Staying in a dark, quiet room was necessary to ease the symptoms, and visualizing the activities she wanted to return to made her feel so much better. Miriam was amazed how much she could feel like she had actually done whatever activity she’d visualized.

~ Fatigue & PCOS ~

A constant feeling that women with PCOS know all too well. It’s not just typical tiredness – it’s the kind of exhaustion that runs deep, affecting energy, focus, and even mood. In short, fatigue becomes a constant companion.

While cortisol imbalances are often blamed for fatigue, the real culprit in PCOS is insulin resistance. Though cortisol can contribute to mid-afternoon crashes and disrupted sleep, it’s insulin resistance that’s behind the fatigue most women experience. Insulin resistance impairs the body’s ability to properly use glucose for energy, leading to fluctuating blood sugar levels. When blood sugar spikes after a meal, it can cause a temporary burst in energy, followed by a very rapid drop, resulting in significant fatigue, brain fog and cravings. This drop is caused by an excess of insulin produced in response to the blood sugar spike, but the body in unable to respond to insulin properly - hence the term insulin resistance. These constant fluctuations can create an energy rollercoaster throughout the day, leaving you feeling sluggish and drained all the time!

It's not just about getting enough sleep or your cortisol levels, it’s about addressing the root causes of fatigue that come with PCOS to regain your energy.

~ S P R I N G ! ~

Spring is here! The season of change and growth. In Chinese Medicine, we look to the seasons as guides for living well and staying in optimal health. Here are 5 tips for Spring according to TCM:

Get Moving! The spring relates to the Liver. Even 10-30 min/day, whether a brisk walk, qi gong or dancing in your kitchen can do wonders for waking up and circulating the Liver qi.

Vision & Planning: The Liver relates to vision and planning. It’s the energy of new beginnings. Whether it’s work, social, or other plans, remember that baby steps count - you can’t rush a garden. Start somewhere.

Food for the Liver: Green foods such as kale, collards, parsley, mint, mustard greens, dandelion, bok choy all support the Liver system.

Acupuncture: Acupuncture helps you stay healthy in seasonal transitions, as well as move the Liver qi to unblock stagnation. Connect with our Acupuncturist, Laura Burns for a spring session.

Other Healing Modalities for Stuck Energy Patterns: Any healing modality that helps you process frustration, anger, or depression can be helpful. Our psychotherapist Cathy Lumsden does fabulous work in helping unblock stuck energy patterns. Even a good walk & talk with a close friend can help.

What’s coming up for you this Spring? 🌱

We look forward to growing with you

~ WALKING ~

As winter comes to an end, many of us are getting out of our little hibernation and looking to get back into physical activity. It can be difficult to jump straight into workout programs or feel nerve wracking to join a gym. If you’re unsure on what to do, something as simple as walking is a great place to start.

Walking, whether it’s around your neighbourhood or on a trail, is an easy and gentle way to get back into physical activity or a great addition to your current practice, as it’s more than just about burning calories.

There are numerous benefits from walking that will not only improve your current health but will help prevent future health concerns.

Benefits of walking:
Boosts mood and lowers stress
Sunlight and vitamin D exposure
Improves cardiovascular health
Lowers blood pressure
Strengthens muscles and bones
Improves circulation and supports joint health
Helps maintain a healthy weight
Improves blood sugar regulation
Stimulates the digestion
Boosts lymphatic circulation
Improves cognition and brain health
Getting out into nature
Supports good sleep

You don’t need to walk for hours a day to see improvements in health. Brisk walking for 30 minutes per day for 5 days a week can reduce the risk of many age-related diseases such as coronary heart disease.
The benefits are endless! Make walking a part of your day.
