I don't usually post this heavily but good bits having been popping into my feed that felt relateable and I'm up to my eyeballs in a couple of courses right now. One topic happens to be the scientific study of positive psychology.
That means that instead of focusing on what's "wrong" with us, as per traditional psychology, we focus on reinforcing the positive. Building on our strengths, virtues, and positive attributes.
For me, a part of that means curating my media(s) with intent and mindfulness.
As this video mentions, I also no longer watch the news. I try to take in enough (from reputable sources) to be aware of what is going on, but not so much that it overwhelms me or oversaturats my life.
To show my age - "Back in my day" the news was on television in the morning and at 5 & 6 pm. Then you carried on with your favourite entertainment programming or another aspect of your life.
These days, there is no set time. There is no break. And there are endless comment sections; and in my experience, each comment is typically more negative and toxic than the last.
That kind of exposure and immersion starts to eat you alive.
