Effective Jan. 1, drivers will not have to report property damage from a collision to law enforcement unless the cost of the damage is more than $5,000, up from the previous threshold of $2,000.

This change better reflects current vehicle repair costs. Not requiring drivers to report minor fender-benders will save Albertans time and free up law enforcement resources for other priorities.

Collisions resulting in injuries and fatalities must still be reported regardless of the estimated cost of repairs.

Future increases to the collision reporting threshold will be adjusted for inflation.

The only way to apply for affordability payments is by going online at alberta.ca/affordable or in person to an Alberta Registry or Alberta Supports Centre.
