I miss her…

This video is from 2 years ago. Taken just a few days before Piper passed. I never shared this story. I wasn’t ready, it was too hard and painful. Still is but it has softened within me.

The story…
She wasn’t well but I had hope. The vet and the barn manager at that time did too. We weren’t sure what was going on but we were doing all we could to figure it out and help her.

I had planned to drive down to see her on the Friday. But when Thursday came I felt the need to go that day. The vet was already there to see her alongside the barn manager. As I arrived I did as I always do which is call her name out loud with love and excitement. I turned the corner to walk down the aisle where her stall was. The barn manager stopped me and told me to wait a minute outside. Something was wrong…I started to think a million thoughts. What was happening? Panic was settling within me.

One minute later the barn manager met me outside and said “she just passed” I screamed and dropped on my knees. How was this possible? How? Why?

The manager said she was with Piper. All seemed fine but when Piper heard my footsteps entering the barn and my voice when I called her name she took her last breath. All on her own. The vet said he had never seen anything like this, never seen such a soft, gentle and calm passing of a horse.

I knew then she had wanted me there but did not want me to see her go. Even in her last moment she protected me, protected my heart. They do that for us…

I see her around
I feel her around
She’s become a guide when I work with other animals and especially horses
But gosh do I miss my girl
