Unlike bottles, breasts don't have ounce markers. Thankfully, there are some pretty reliable ways to tell if your baby is getting enough breast milk.

Here are seven signs your breastfeeding baby is full and getting enough milk:

1) They’re having lots of wet and dirty diapers.
2) They’re gaining weight as expected.
3) They seem satisfied after feeds.
4) You can hear or see them swallowing.
5) Breasts feel softer after feeds.
6) Your baby feeds often and shows hunger cues.
7) They’re alert and meeting milestones.

Even if your baby is showing some of the signs above, trust your gut. If you're worried something is off, it's okay to ask for help. Take the guesswork out of breastfeeding. Book your in-home visit today: https://www.chelsealactation.com/service-page/in-home-breastfeeding-consult

“Is my baby getting enough milk?”

This is the number one worry I hear from new parents — and it makes sense. In the early days, we feel unsure, and we can’t see ounce markers on a breast the way we can with a bottle.

The good news? Your baby is giving you clear signals when they’re satisfied. 💛

I just wrote a blog post that shares the signs of a full, well-fed baby — so you can feel more confident while feeding your baby.

And if you're still not sure and you’d like personalized support with feeding, I’d love to help. Book an in-home consult today, and together we can demystify feeding for you and your baby: https://www.chelsealactation.com/service-page/in-home-breastfeeding-consult

"How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?" is the most common question I hear from new parents. Thankfully, there are some pretty reliable ways to tell if your baby is getting enough breast milk — and when it’s time to ask for help.

💛 Exciting update!

Did you know the term “Lactation Consultant” isn’t regulated? Anyone can use it.

Right now, I’m a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS) — earned through 90+ hours of coursework and assessment.

For the past 3+ years, I’ve been working toward becoming an IBCLC — the gold standard for lactation care. I’ve completed over 500 supervised clinical hours supporting families, and I’m officially sitting my IBCLC exam this September! 🤞

We’re lucky to have such a strong, supportive breastfeeding community in Ottawa–Gatineau, and I’m so grateful to be part of it. 💛

If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between a “lactation consultant” and an IBCLC, I break it down here:

NEVER EVER cover car seats and strollers with blankets as sunshades!! Doing so reduces air circulation and raises the temperature dangerously. Even thin covers can lead to significant heat buildup.

Were you (or are you) a breastfeeding parent? 💛 Who or what helped you the most?

For me, it was my birth doulas who noticed my baby's tongue-tie — something the hospital staff didn’t recognize. Because of them, I got it released within days, turning painful, damaged ni***es into painless feeds. Later, my son’s pediatrician kept cheering me on at every check-up: “Just keep doing what you’re doing.”

Did you receive help from a lactation consultant or a breastfeeding specialist? I just wrote a blog post about the difference between the two here: https://wix.to/5zOBLOZ

I’d love to hear your story — who (or what) made the biggest difference for you? Share in the comments. ⬇️.
