We recently surveyed our Social Meals Program participants....Here's what they had to say -

đź’¬ "Thanks so much for this social gathering over delicious food. We truly appreciate the friends we've met... it has a positive influence on our mental health."

đź’¬ "As seniors who do not have a large social network, we enjoy the opportunity to gather with like-minded people over a tasty meal. We feel valued in our community when there is a focus on seniors."

💬 "To me it means meeting with old friends and making new ones. Talking to someone other than family. So it's mainly the conversations that wouldn't be possible without this outlet — plus a very good healthy meal."

đź’¬ "Without it, I wouldn't know where to go. After my husband left, I got my freedom and could come make friends."

đź’¬ "A chance to get out of the house, visit, and make new friends. Good food, good people, good meal out."

This is what connection looks like.

A warm meal.
A friendly face.
A sense of belonging.

For many seniors, this is more than just lunch —
it’s community, conversation, and something to look forward to each week.

If you know a senior who could use a little more connection in their life, we'd love to welcome them to our table.

Men’s Group – Starting April 9

Many men carry their struggles silently. They don’t have to.

Desert Sun Counselling & Resource Centre is offering an 8-week Men’s Group providing a safe, supportive space for men to talk openly about the challenges they are facing and connect with others experiencing similar struggles.

The group welcomes men navigating stress, anxiety, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem, and life transitions. Sessions are participant-driven, encouraging open discussion, peer support, and reflection to help build healthier coping strategies and meaningful connection.

Facilitated by Michael Dimitrov, MSc – Counsellor
Michael specializes in men’s mental health, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Using cognitive-behavioural tools, mindfulness, and psychoeducation, he helps men build resilience, emotional regulation, and practical skills for navigating life’s challenges.

Behind every strong community… are strong women.

At Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Centre, we are incredibly proud to work alongside a team of compassionate, dedicated, and inspiring women who show up every single day to support others.

They listen.
They advocate.
They comfort.
They empower.
They stand beside women, children, and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Whether it’s helping a woman find safety, guiding someone through trauma, supporting a young mother, seniors or simply offering a safe space to be heard — these women remind us every day what strength, empathy, and resilience truly look like.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women on our team and the countless women in our community who continue to lift each other up.

Because when women support women, entire communities become stronger.

To the incredible women who do this work — and to every woman finding her voice, her strength, and her path forward — we see you, and we celebrate you.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Community generosity is growing

After the Jim & Gudrun Moore Legacy Endowment Fund was launched, Stuart and Ann Culver stepped forward with an incredible $11,000 donation to help secure the future of Desert Sun.

Now they’re issuing a challenge to the South Okanagan:
Let’s double the endowment from $60,000 to $120,000 this year!

This fund ensures Desert Sun can continue supporting families, women fleeing violence, seniors, and people of all ages for generations to come.

Will you help us meet the challenge?
Every gift helps secure the future of our community.
