Why take our equine first aid course? Besides the obvious - that you’re a responsible horse owner who knows how important this knowledge is....
✅ We have the top equine first aid instructors in North America and the most comprehensive program available
✅ We cover injury prevention, identification of pain, and alleviation of pain (imagine how much better your ride will be for both of you!)
✅ We talk about the important things your vet needs to know when you call
✅ We teach you about digestive emergencies and how to deal with them - colic is the number one killer of horses, after-all.
✅ You get to practice bandaging - even in some hard to bandage areas, taking proper vital signs, stretches for injury prevention and general equine comfort.
✅ We teach you how to handle the scary stuff, like a choke emergency when your horse has green goo oozing out their nose.
✅ You will learn and practice - so when an emergency happens muscle memory kicks in and you’ll be able to help your horse in their moment of need.
✅ We do everything with your safety in mind.
✅ You take home a comprehensive health and first aid quick reference manual.
✅ You earn your certificate as a certified equine first aider and use it towards IABBC, EAGALA, PATH, EC CE credits as well as favorable insurance rates
Sign up for an already scheduled course, or contact us to host one at your place - we can work anywhere!

What is a VCPR?, and how can it benefit you, your veterinarian, and your horse?🤔

When it comes to the veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR), that’s exactly what we’re looking at: three individuals coming together to form a mutually respectful (as much as the horse is capable, of course), long-term bond that focuses on the horse while safeguarding the veterinarian and the owner. It’s not an easy task! And it takes a lot of thought and consideration.

With just a year since I relocated to BC from SK, where I had a 15 year working relationship with our vets, I had pre-emptively prepared my animals like I did for myself.

I thought in that in order for me to get to know a veterinarian in my new location, that means something is up with one of my animals, especially if I had not yet had a chance to schedule an annual wellness check up upon my arrival....so...

I decided to ask my veterinarians (in SK) for my both my dogs & horses medical records to bring with me and provide to my new vet clinic. For some this might have a small admin fee, however can be way cheaper than the alternative on medical history in an emergency.

Especially if you were not due yet for your animals annual check up.

New relationships (vets included) as animal owners are apart of our animals life and ours, just like establishing a new family doctor.

Read this article helping horse owners establish a VCPR, excellent tool and food for thought😉

To help you better understand the ideal VCPR—a relationship that carries a lot of weight in our horsey lives—we’ve sought out the signs of a healthy one. How does yours line up?

WHAT'S IN YOUR EQUINE COLIC TOOL KIT?
This is an excellent article by Chris White, DVM 👇

It’s important to remember that with colic, time is not always on your side. “Many colics, the longer you wait the worse the prognosis,” says DVM Clapp. “Intervening early on could save everyone a lot of trouble and even be the difference in the horse making it through this colic episode or not.”

Take-Home Message
With horses, a colic can be impossible to prevent with many factors playing a role. Having the tools, first aid skills & knowledge to respond, will help you best handle colic if it comes knocking at your stall door.
Do not attempt to handle an episode alone. Vets are a phone call away and happy to help guide you through a scary situation.

In our certified equine first aid classes we teach horse owners to have the knowledge and confidence to detect, respond and support their veterinarian with VITAL information.

Discover what you should do to prepare for a colic episode, considerations to make, and things to keep in mind after surgery.
